I have some ideas that i would like to submit.

The abiltiy to filter out the Linden Library. There are times i just want to search my own inventory without the newbies stuff getting in the way. :P

Also another idea would be Sort by Type. :P (clothing, Animations, Objects, exc)

Yeah, I'd like search to ignore the library too.I would also like the ability to search a folder (for example, only search my clothing folder so if I am looking for something, say, red, I don't get red hair, red eyes, and a bunch of other junk from all my other folders.

I just want folders to be able to open in a new window, or a new tab that would solve 90% of my complaints

Yes, please. Since the LIBRARY folder can't be renamed, moved, or deleted, can we please have the ability to filter it? Even better, how about the ability to edit a "filter list" of arbitrary folders and items? I'm actually surprised to find that ability missing.

Thanks for the improvements made so far. I remember when we didn't HAVE inventory SEARCH. Oh, the humanity.

How about we just put the library in its own tab. our items in the current 'all items' tab and use the recent items tab how its intended.

presto?

You can! Well, sort of...

Open your inventory, and look on the File menu at the top of the inventory. There is a choice there for 'new window', that opens a second inventory window. So you can have one open to one area, and the other in a search, and can drag stuff between them.

As for restricting searches, I agree with Yiffy - add a checkbox to the 'modify current' filter options so we can exclude the Library.

You can use the Filters > Modify Current choices to restrict a search to only show clothes, or only landmarks... That helps some. But being able to only search a selected folder, or being able to open a selected folder directly in a new window both would rock.

Is it just me, or did the update turn "Sort by date" on by default?
If so, WHY? Sort by date is useful for only one purpose: finding recently taken items instead of scrolling through looking by name. At least, that's all I use it for, I know I don't mentally track my items by date.

Running Without The Library Folder
06-14-2006 22:58
I don't know of a way to to toggle the Library folder off and on while the program is runnig, but you can start Second Life without the Library folder being displayed using the -
"-noinvlib" command line flag.

On a default file path windows system, in the targe field of an SL shorcut,

C:\Program Files\SecondLife\ssecondlife.exe" -noinvlib.

As shown in the LSL wik on the page returned by searching for newview .

Getting rid of the library is fine, but I would rather be able to "lock" specific folders with a right-click selection, thus keeping them from being searched or added to unless "unlocked" first. This would help with some lag issues because the items in "locked" folders would not need to be downloaded.

Then there is the need for a "find duplicate UUID" and "Find Similar" searches, which will go into a different post on another day.

**kisses**

p.s. Good tip SuzanneC. Thank you. (Now why did I need to come to the forums to find out about it?)

The jumpy inventory bug is what still gets me.

Jumping to the top of the list - or some random spot in the list - after editing and closing a notecard or script is insane. I'm constantly trying to re-find the dang thing I was just working on in inventory.

take the Library out
06-17-2006 04:04
YES YES YES. Don't include the library in searches any more, please. Okay I've been grateful for items from the library from time to time, but having it all open up whenever I do an inventory search is just a complete WASTE OF TIME.

Maybe have some kind of checkbox in one of the menus for it for "include library in search". because some people would probably still want to search it, at least sometimes.

A "Search for matching shoes" feature would be nice. :p

Several weeks ago, I also inquired about hiding the Library--it also bugged me for some time that it falsely inflates your count of actual stuff. It'd also be nice to get more fresh Linden content in there, but ah, I digress...

Taking note of this thread, along the same thoughtline. Thanx!

Certainly a good idea -- especially for residents who have been around for a while. While we work on how to do this, there is a bit of a workaround. Change the viewer startup to pass in the command line parameter:

-noinvlib

And the viewer will not even bother to request the inventory library.
