Hi,

Second Life has just been added to Update-Scout.com, an interactive web
service, that informs its users about software updates and releases.
Users can set up personal update news feeds from the Update-Scout
software catalog and even add new entries to the catalog.
The address is http://www.update-scout.com .

The latest version number is currently grabbed from
http://secondlife.com/community/downloads.php . Is there is a better possibility to
retrieve the version (e.g. PAD file) ?
Thanks,

Peter Kullmann

I think the best thing you can do is to do what the SL auto-updater does. It grabs this address:

CODE
http://www.secondlife.com/update.php?userserver=userserver.agni.lindenlab.com

That is always redirected to the current downloadable SL installer.

I'm not sure on that last... the best way to check this functionality is to use a packet sniffer like Ethereal to see what the updater requests when it checks for an update. I'd say that going with update.php would be a lot more likely to work for the forseeable future than trying to parse downloads.php.
