Due to high demand, logins are currently deferred?!!

For the first time in using SL, I received that message twice in a row while trying to login. Is Linden suddenly imposing limits on concurrency?

It's not the first time, they did that a few days ago as well. I remember some earlier discussions about whether they would ever do that, and while I don't know if that's what they are doing today I remember them discussing the idea of giving premium accounts priority over non-premium during high-concurrency times.

For the most part I support that idea, though in practice I think it's more likely to turn out that the premium accounts will be the only ones in-world to experience all the fun problems that occur during periods of high load :)

Prbabaly a little over a year ago LL did mention throttling the log ins under heavy usage times as a stop gap measure to solve some of the grid crashes we were experiencing at the time. I don't think they ever actually did it though.

Somehow 52k online right now does not sound too high.............I've seen over 65k recently. But, when LL was tossing the idea out the grid would grind to a complete halt with 30k.

Well, as usual the problem is one of communication. I don't see any blog entries as to why they might be using "deferred" logins, which is no surprise. We are left to guess why they do many of the things they do, so...

I think you're right, they discussed that at around the time that 30K was an absolute death sentence. Maybe 52k online isn't the same kind of problem, but if they are going to implement priority logins I'd rather see them do it at 50k than 70k, before the grid falls down :)

((Now if only they could keep the asset server up for a full day or more without interruption))

Yeah, apparently the bots bouncing from sim to sim have started ARing all the RL residents slowing them down 2% when logins hit 64k on weekends :P

Concurrency is only one piece, communication problems and sickly servers can cause transactions to back up and loads to get spiked too. And of course what all those avatars are doing will make a difference too.

Premium Account Priority

I read further up about throttling log ins and giving priority to premium accounts.

I have a premium account and get the same message as everyone here is getting.

I don't think LL is throttling logins right now.........the thing is broken. :)

Okay, I take that back........it appears they are ejecting avatars at the moment LOL

But, I don't think it's intentional. It just broke, AGAIN!! LOL

You don't think it has anything to do with the current upgrade to the dabase hardware, they would perhaps throttle loggins etc until it is fully tested and proven?
