I heard the scripting engine is being reworked and transferred. I could have old info though.
With the change, will the scripting functions be reworked so that scripts don't quite so adversely affect the sims, and some decent functionality is added?
Second life was good, at one point, but we're getting dribbles of improvements and fixes. Half the time on updates, we get a a new function that gives us info we should have been able to access years ago, and the other half we discover that SL has nerfed an existing function because someone managed to abuse it.
Even the nerfs don't affect the abusers. They come out with workarounds. It just makes life more difficult for the honest user.
Need an example? sending an lm and getting a 2 second delay to prevent spam. Does it stop spammers? Hardly. Just makes other users add another script to prevent their main script from a damaging delay. An abuser will just add tons of scripts and not have a problem.
LSL needs to be ripped out and rebuilt from the ground up. The physics engine also.
Someone is eventually going to come out with a better engine and a real internal language, without half-thought out "fixes" and with real functionality such as the ability to change your avatar's expression without having to create, upload, and run a animation.
If that happens before SL has bothered to do it, the lindens will either have sold off their shares or they'll be broke.
And stop with the new features that no one wants that could be ALREADY done by external apps. If I wanted voice, I would have installed Skype or teamspeak.
