Is it just me.. or since this new patch, the video stream keeps turning itself on? I turn it off... it starts again!

Mmm....sounds like many of SL's new features have an "auto-reconnect and turn on."

It's most likely due to the script in the TV, DVD/video player. It can force video to start playing for a specific avie, or for everyone on the parcel, rather annoying and one reason I usually just disable video altogether :(.

The default method of changing urls in media players is to broadcast the information parcel or sim wide. We have released a smarter system that only turns on your movie player, when you walk upto a movie screen at a preset range. It will not however turn on everyone elses movie players in the area, unless they are also within range. This system won an award at the recent IT-Expo in SL. It runs from a central server and can control up to 7 screens in the same parcel, each playing different movies. 'Proximity Server System'

Another system being released will have smart capabilities. It will remember which part of the movie you were last watching, and when you come back, it will play the movie from that point onwards. 'Silver Stream Network'

And yet a third system being released will allow all screens within a Sim, to be networked, and each screen comes with its own built in media controls, so you can cycle through the movies available from that screen's playlist. 'Silver Stream Network'

The Silver Stream Network and the Proximity Server systems will all be enhanced with personal HUD screens for personal viewing of any content.

Again, none of these systems interfere with anyone elses movie players unless they enter the sensor range of the screen, which can be as low as 2 mtrs. So allow existing media systems to be played normally.

Thanks for the advert, that was quite useless. Go try it. I think you'll find your wonderful new media stream changer (dvd player, call it what you like) has exactly the same problem.

The problem's not the script - the script isn't rebroadcasting 'play! play! play!'. It does start the stream automatically, but I know it doesn't sit there periodically restarting the stream because I wrote the script.

I've tried changing the media stream setting on a blank 16m2 parcel and guess what - it starts itself repeatedly there too.

PS remind me to spam a thread you start about some issue with pointless advertising for my scripts!? At least you've given me some ideas to add to my TV script.

Well... it must be your scripting abilities... I can assure you.. none of the systems I 'described' in the post, in an effort to assist you, are anything remotely like your media players, or anyone elses for that matter. It is a completely different system to the default/normal SL method. Try and be helpful, and ppls reply with being rude.

Oh ok, I stand corrected - partially. I checked out your streamer, and love what you've done - I have only a vague idea how you did it (but some clue!) It didn't work for me the second time around, until I wandered around the shop a bit - then QT woke up to the texture it was meant to use. Also note some of the 'click for info' items in your shop don't seem to work, and apartment has one 'p'.

However... still... the point is, changing a normal http stream on a blank parcel, with no script involved, still causes the movie to replay itself by itself in this release of SL, and you took the opportunity to market something rather than address the problem, so I still say, bad boy.

Is this the first time the movie(s) have restarted over and over? The only time I have experienced that, is due to stream lag from the hosting server, and time dilations becoming out of sync, making the sim server think it hasn't already sent the url. This makes the movie repeat the first section (usually when using H.264 codex in mov format, or MP4 with H.264 codex) to fast start the stream in a progressive download situation.

The new released client has done something to slow many processes down at start up, and from the blogs this morning the llEmail function is broken. Until things settle down, it would be hard to assess.

The delay you experienced when looking at our system, was probably due to the fact we are running it on land that already has a url/texture set in the media tab in about land. The system will coexist with default systems. We will be adding another system in there soon, making 3 seperate media systems all within the same parcel  . The sensors use 2 different methods of detection/communication. Upon initial detection, it delays breifly before checking again that you are still there, in case you have just simply walked by.

As for the 'extra' P in apartment, you have won the prize for spotting this deliberate mistake, of a TV system :p

Haha!! Good job :) Your notecards came through when I next logged in, so I'd put that down to an SL bug too rather than anything specific to your shop.
