weird HUD placement

Hi together,
i am facing a weird HUD placement on one of my HUDs. I know that HUD placement is related to the used resolution and isn't fully deterministic. However, one of my HUDs shows up only at one or two placements (e.g. bottom right, center whatsover ) and not at the others.
It mainly looks like the placement of this HUD is moved a little left and up, so that some attachment points are out of sight and cannot be used.
My question with this is, is there a way to reset the placement of a HUD (or all HUDS) to their default placement position?
To note, the position of the HUD cannot, for whatever reason, be placed via edit->position.
Hope, someone knows a solution for this.
Regards,
Leff.

Leff, maybe this will work: detach the HUD, attach it to another HUD (or any attachment point), and then reattach it where you originally intended. That should "reset" it.

Thanks Torley for the quick reaction. Many of the people in SL are so sweet, I am sometimes near to tears ;-)
Unfortunately I did everything I was able to do. Attached it somewhere, detached it, reattached it elsewhere, detached it, dragged it onto the av, rezzed it outside, took it back, attached it, etc. Could this be connected with the feature that you are not able to reset a locked up script anymore (this showed up in [post]94625[/post]
Hm, but I will try it once more right now, just to be sure...shortly after, no change.
To add, i was truely right. I tried edit->focus on another HUD, and with the zoom option you can resize the whole attachment area which shows up as a white bounding box. The weird placed HUD is outside of this box, left and above of the bounding box as everybody can see in the (hopefully right attached) image. (well, I am not able to put the image into this group, so I put it into the gallery section for a sign of the unusualness of SL ;-).
So, look at [post]949927[/post]
Can this be a failure of the HUD, because it isn't editable (the script as well as the corresponding prim) and SL wants to save some position and isn't able to? But not beeing editable should be possible, otherwise a user might mess up the precisely combined prims for the UI (just an assumption).
Or is this tending to get a bugreport...
Regards,
Leff.

P.S. Just another short question as someone listens. I have a lowercase l in leffard, that happened by accident (too fast typing ;-) ). I would spend a fairly sufficient amount on getting that changed to an uppercase L. I read, that changes of the first name aren't possible at all, thats like in my home country, but here, you can change at least a few letters in your name (of course they charge you for that, as someone has to do it). I am sure, that other people who are walking around with a lowercase letter or a more annoying typo in their first name might be interested in this too. One makes mistakes in RL, but you are sometimes able to change them afterwards. Life, even SL, is to serious to walk around with a spoiled name. How can you build up a serious reputation, if you have a typo in your firstname? Thats truely a nightmare for me :-(. LL should think about a manageable policy of that. Of course, i can get an alt with a correct name but that isn't the same - and I am not sure, if my lastname is still available. Adding a web page for changing the firstname shouldn't be to hard - as I assume, that ingame your are internally referred as a UUID and the database gets always requested for the actual name.

P.P.S The image I referred to is probably the first statement in this forum, that screenshoting a HUD can be really useful ;-).

Leff--about your lowercase "l", there are some notable Residents of SL who are pleased with having lowercase first names, even if they didn't intentionally mean to have them! Should you be very troubled by this, though, I'd recommend emailing [email]support@secondlife.com[/email]--while name changes are not broadly available at present, a lowercase ---> UPPERCASE substitution to effectively make you "Leffard Lassard" can be requested.

The screenshot is helpful! I see what you mean. I also think it's weird you can't reposition it after right-clicking it and selecting EDIT. Is there a way you can please send me a copy of your HUD so I can see the problem for myself?

Happy to hear you are finding many sweet people here. :)

Hi Torley,
though it is no copy and no mod, you wouldn't find out that much about it. You can just put it on and see thats something wrong with it. But Lindens might have further ways to explore the issue. I will send it to you, but don't try a easy rip off... ;-).

Just to followup:

I was able to reposition the HUD--TERRA speed by Cubey Terra--fine after zooming all the way out. Looks like the small control was attached to a much bigger transparent sphere, which is where the positioning arrows were situated.

Leffard, I'll be updating your name on the SL Forums to have an uppercase L too. :)

Hi there! Torley is correct... the Terra Speed is a tiny control panel that's linked to a gigantic transparent sphere.

Unfortunately, in SL building tools, what this means is that the arrows that let you reposition an object appear at the geometric centre of the object... which is off-screen.

To reposition, you need to "zoom out" from your HUD while wearing it so that you see the white screen bounding box. Here's how:

1. Right-click the HUD and choose Edit.
2. Roll back on your wheel mouse (if you have one), or use the technique that Leffard mentioned above for zooming back, until you see the screen bounding box.
3. Grab the HUD's position arrows and move it to another spot.

I hope that helps!

Cubey probably made the prim really big so it had enough energy in it. I had the same problem with Cyberflight (in my Flight Feather), but what I did was stretch it in one direction so it has enough volume to work without wasting space in the HUD.
