We use to be able to pan up and down using Ctrl Alt Shift and the up or down arrow keys.
Now we can't.

I heard of this from someone who I think made use of this in camera work for video production and found it to be a serious problem.

--------- addenda ----------

This may already be fixed now, as well as having been mentioned in another recent post.

It's not working for me after the 1.7.1 update.

Pressing ctrl alt shift and the up and down arrows does nothing, just as it didnothing yesterday. This is while flying, standing, and sitting.

Pressing control alt shift and the left and right arrow makes the camera pan left and right, just as it did yesteday.

I am on a PC , I just got told by someone on a mac that it does work for them.

I am using a real old keyboard but it seems to work just fine in all other respects.

got to go now. will switch keyboards later.

I find I am losing chatbar shortcuts like Ctrl-A after going into Edit too, altho it sometimes happens and sometimes does not. Anyone have a more solid repro? The strange thing is the chatbar is still shown in focus with the orange outline, and yet it doesn't reply. Is there an easier way to wipe a line of text than holding down Backspace? Esc key doesn't clear the buffer.

Ctrl Alt Shift Up or Down arrow does vertical pan if the chat bar is closed.

Ctrl Alt Shift Up or Down arrow does not do vertical pan if the chat bar is open.

Thanks for the reply, Huns!

I hardly use the pan controls, but I do like things to work properly. It does seem like folks who make videos would need to have all the camera functions to work just like they are supposed to.

Shift-Home or Shift-End (when the cursor is at the end or beginning of the chat input field respectively) will highlight all of the text if Ctrl-A is not working for you. :)

I have no evidence to support this but I have a feeling that the camera controls are extemely underused by many people. Folks who came here from video games and other software with camera controls might know about them because they were expecting them, but if you had no experience with panning and orbiting in a computer, well, where in the real world does one pan and orbit all around? We do zoom in and out in the real world, or hear about it, with telescopes and binoculars and zoom lens cameras and by leaning forward. Panning real far to the left or right, or up or down, is just not something one thinks of instinctively.

We can also do cool things with ctrl-8 for fisheye and ctrl-0 for magnified view. Magnified is not the same as zoomed in on. Ctrl-9 sets it back to normal.

Ain't it too bad that we don't have scripted control over all these camera abilities?

actually a nice feature that i wish could be implimented is is an Edge Camera Scroll Lock. I do alot of RL photography editing and all camera manipulation of any sort weahter its gaming or studio set is essential and this is why it was mentioned for ctrl+alt+shift as panning in the help notes but that was a different SL then too.

It just concerned me when it wasn't available and i recall people had actully stated they would like restrictions implimented asto others panning into thier homes (i.e Skyboxes etc.) as an issue of Privacy Control. glad to see this didn't happen ( people aren't going to be having pixel sex in teh Sandboxes anytime soon  ) and is 'fixable'.
