Steps to reproduce the bug: Users with ATI x300/600 must have the following true in their preferences:
A) Local Lighting ENABLED
B) Bumpmap/Shiney ENABLED
C) Vertex Shaders ENABLED

Observed results:
If the following preferences are set, Secondlife will crash instantaneously on startup, not even reaching the log-in screen unless the -noaudio switch is set in the shortcut properties.

Expected results:
Viewer should not have show-stopper bugs that basic users do not know how to troubleshoot.

------------------

Get it right, Devs. Making the viewer reset our preferences is NOT a fix.

Is this a laptop x300 or a desktop x300? *I do agree with the showstopper bug staement*
I have a desktop x300 and have not experienced this.

Hi,

Vertex Shaders were turned off with this release for the lower end X mobility chipsets, please use the noaudio trick to get to the preferences screen and then disable vertex shaders, you should then be able to use the client with audio again.

Hi according to the crash reports your using a standard ati 9600, which is different to the cards mentioned in the subject, also the drivers look quite old ie GL1.4 could you upgrade from the following page

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeonx-xp.html

And try again.

Milo.
