okay there is a place for classifieds and listing your land separately from "Land Sales" why are so many renters listed in the "Buy land" category...it makes it nearly impossible to sift through the 10s of hundreds of renters to get to the 1 or 2 items that are actually for sale. And yea this rant is born of the fact that I am currently having to sift through 50-70 parcels of rental spaces for some REAL real estate not rental crap. And WHO honestly believes that they are "Buying" the land when you have to pay XXLandownerXX Smith a monthly fee. AND obey their covenant and rules etc. Buy means BUY its owned you don't have to pay someone every month for what you already own (I don't pay rental on the rights to wear the dresses i buy). If I pay SL for the privilege of owning land in SL then that goes to Linden Lab not some landlord. and I can build whatever the sam hill I want on it. up to and including Sam's Hill... I propose (and this is probably one looooone voice out there) that there be a SECOND category for those renting their land in the search engine leaving land SALES, IE I OWN the piece of real estate not rent it, as it is.
Just a thought.
Enjoy your Second Life.

Can't you just select 'Mainland' in the search function, up the top? Thus eliminating any private land that is up for sale whether it be for 1L or 1 000 000L?

Except the landowner has to pay LL for the right to allow you to have that piece of land. We don't own any land in SL if we follow your definition, that includes mainland as we have to pay LL every month to own that. Enjoy your Second Life. There's a classified section for land rentals, ironically it's full of land sales!

One question comes to mind, where do you find land that you don't have to pay a monthly fee for? On mainland you pay tier to LL and on islands you pay tier to the estate manager (who in turn pays LL island tier) so who is this mythical estate manager that only sells the land and not ask tier and without a convonant to boost.

There is no FREE land, what confuses me is the landowners (who at any moment can terminate the contract with you and boot you off land you "bought" list their rental lands as "land sales". And many DO list it as "land for SALE" not rent...then proceed when you get there to tell you you have to pay THEM the tier not LL. If it really WERE land "sales" you would own the land outright, pay your tier to LL and not a landlord. Was just asking why all the rental land is in search engine for "Sale" instead of in a separate engine for "Rentals". Landlords still retain rights to their land including telling you what to build, how high to build it, including if or if not you can sublet it. its not land you buy its land you RENT...its not even Rent to own as you can be booted out if said landlord up and drops his lands or dies in RL or cancels his account or whatever. Someone still has to pay LL in the long run, many landlords even offer teir/prim usage above what a normal person can expect if they DO own land but then can't these lands be posted in a "rental land" search engine vs land to buy? And while Most mainland land IS for actual sale, not all is. not sure how to narrow the parameters of the Land Sales search engine to separate sales from rentals...or for that matter, most of the rental land is still posted as "land for sale" and would invalidate it anyway if a specification of "sale" were to be entered or even rental...(though I would hope that a Rental specification would pull up most rentals).

Blame LL for that confusion, land you buy on islands is your land when you can sell it on to others. The reason you pay tier to the estate owner is because the estate owner is the manager on private islands while LL is the manager on mainland, LL made that rule not the estate owners.
With your reasoning a RL land you buy with convonant is rented land because the convonant states what you can do on your land sometimes even as far as how many cars you can park on your own driveway.
Even without convonant and on mainland you can't just do anything you want on your land, otherwise you could have a sexclub on a PG sim or run heavy scripts that brings the sim to the knees, there is still something like a TOS.
It is prety simple to filter rental land that is listed in the sales search, just skip the 1L$ lands.

I'm still failing to see how you see paying LL a monthly fee (and you have to pay a fee to LL if you own mainland, you have to be a premium member) is buying land but paying a landlord is renting. The principle is the same, even if the execution is different. Yes the landlord can have rules, but so do LL. The key is to read the covenant. If you only want to find mainland , then filer your search to search mainland only, estate plots won't show up then.

Linden tier is more like council tax.
Landlord tier is rent, whether you paid a deposit, or can sell on your lease to another.
