Hello. Since I download SL Version 1.15, I logged on and got crashed four times already. The screen froze for a minute or so then all of the sudden my computer crashed all the way to "shut down" zone. My computer came back on like it has been reboot. Why is that?

It has not happened before the newest version download. Version 1.13 worked the best for me. Version 1.14 sucked because it made me crash every five minutes after I logged right back on repeatedly.

What can I do to stop this from crashing all the time? Do you have the same problem with version 1.15 already? Share your experiences.

Add me to the list, I cant stay logged in for more then 5 minutes or so...then the crashing starts, the next time seems to be shorter and the next shorter and so on til the the crash happens.... this is the worst experience yet in game, and i can't really see the practicality in paying for my acct. and or land when i can't even use it. I'm thinking it's a good thing I don't run a business, pity those who do. Before this were the bugs...I couldn't build for getting messed up and having to tear down, or spending the evening with my fancy gown all white with no image written on me.......it's an expensive hobby to begin with but it just doesn't seem to be worth it anymore. As soon as the bugs from one "update" or "new version" clear up we have a whole new set to deal with. Think I just might go back to EQ2, it seems to run just fine, on my 4800+ athlon 64 duel processor and 2 gigs of ram. I'm sad it's come to this, It used to be a really enjoyable game, not a constant agravation. Come on LL give the people their moneys worth eh?

Mine doesn't reboot but the video driver stops working and windows puts me in a very low resolution so I can reboot to fix it. Event logger shows this.

I've updated my graphics drivers, like they said. I'm pretty sure that I just can't ever use Second Life again. I crash within a minute of logging on, I've played around with graphics settings, etc. I have a Toshiba Tecra M4 with an NVIDIA 6600 te graphics card. I can't get the newest NVIDIA updates because they aren't compatible, so I went to Toshiba and got the latest drivers there. The new SL update still doesn't work, so am I SOL? I can't even move my camera around without crashing in an instant. Sometimes I crash before I can even see anything at all. Sometimes, though, I get a black screen. Friends have told me I was still logged on, and then I get an error message saying that the program ended in an unexpected way. Anyone have any ideas? I hate to give up on SL already, I was just getting into making things.

I'm having the same issue, but once of the multiple crashes tonight, I caught a glimpse of the blue screen of death telling me I'm caught in a loop. I was fine with 1.13 after reverting back to it when Version 1.14 kept crashing. This time I'm disappointed that I'm not even given a choice, but am forced to download the update. I'm running a Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT.

I don't normally send crash reports, but tonight I've sent about six.

This can't be good for a computer! It's certainly not good for my mood and fun!

Possible fix
04-26-2007 07:27
I was having similar errors to you all, go into Preferences, check the Graphics pages, one of them has the option 'Use OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects', disable that. It ended the nightmare for me.

Hope it helps you all.

This version is absolutely terrible. I cant even get 30 seconds of stability!
If it keeps up I'll have to...go outside or something. If they can't fix it, then I can't play anymore.

I tried that and it's not helping. Thanks for the thought. :)

Me too. This happened with the last optional update so I had to roll back. So far this evening I've had to hard reboot three times.

Computer: Alienware 5500m
Video card: GeForce Go 6600
Video drivers: current

Yes this fixed the similar problem for me. Definitely try this first. Had terrible crashes now it runs fine (well except for hosed Friends Lists, group IMs wonky, can't send Group Notices... heheh). But unchecking this one setting, without any other changes, not even updating my Graphics drivers, made the difference.

This is actually the hint which helped me to solve this horrible issue. My system is an AMD64x2 on a nForce 4 motherboard and a GF 7800 GT graphic card, using Windows XP. The fps dropped by about 50 fps, but I have still around 35 fps which is more than enough.

Quick update:
05-04-2007 08:09
I had my trusty old GeForce 7900GT bite the dust on me, and ended up buying a brand new Geforce 8800GTS, and now, lo and behold, I can keep this 'Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects' turned on without it rebooting my whole machine. Someone at LL should take a hard look at this.

To those who were helped by that bit of advice about disabling that, glad it helped. :)

I'm going to have to give this fix a try, because ever since 1.51 I can't stay on for more than 10 minutes without a complete lockup.

I have an 8800GTS as well, and whether that option is ticked or not I still crash and my PC reboots.

I'm glad that fix helped some people, but I'm having trouble believing the real problem is a graphics card issue, at least where the majority of users are concerned.
