No search, no teleports.

It's become quite painfully clear that if there indeed is anyone at LL who knows what they're doing, they're in no position to do it.

What you're trying to accomplish, linden labs, really honestly isn't rocket science. You're having a hard time because you're having a difficult time understanding that any network designer/developer/engineer worth their six figure salary is NOT going to recommend things like MYSQL for the sorts of applications you're attempting to run. A grid system was a mistake, linux was a mistake, cheap-ass, crapulent, unstable PC hardware was a mistake, and building originally from the source of active/open worlds was a mistake.

Stop spending all your valuble resources trying to retain customers with shiny new prim techniques, and do the fundamental fixing that SL desparately needs. Just make the decision to do it. I promise it wont hurt.

Crazyness..... Changing group tags and $L balance no worky either. No point in even logging in. Can't go anywhere can't do anything.... Nothing in the blog about problems. One would think they would have LL staff inworld at all times making sure everything works and reporting in the blog if it isn't...

Sorry for the double post but I think this deserves its own post

I think that the servers are experiencing too much load (as usual) and somthing blew up and then cought on fire and then caused SL to be forced to buy up to date servers to kill the DAMN LAG

I think something broke, no one at LL understood the problem, so they just ctrl-alt-del-ed the entire grid. Cause that fixes it when windows breaks.

no no no, ctrl alt delete doesn't fix things, a kick to the server and a hard reboot fixes things :p

No, they dont. They run LINUX, and they run it very, very badly.

*nix isn't crap by any means. It's the people that run it that cause the issues.

Linux / Unix have very different system kernels but it is pretty similar.

Uh i didn't say that in the least. Linux is a VERY good system IN the right hands. I've had linux servers run for a year+ without a reboot.

No, it isn't. Linux is a UNIX-like operating system. It's largely POSIX compliant, (similar file structure and APIs as UNIX), but it is not licensed by the Open Group. It is at best a UNIX clone.

Now, this is not to say that Linux sucks on its own. Linux is actually quite lovely, but it's very, VERY easy to implement very, very badly if you don't know what you're doing, and you're one of those people who uses it because you think you should--not because its actually best for the task at hand.

Linux is very good at operating in a grid topology, but Second Life is precisely the wrong application for grid computing.

Maybe they did a kill -9 by accident.
