I'm getting the error message "Second Life is unable to run because your video card drivers are out of date or unsupported." I'm using the very latest drivers straight from NVidia, on Windows Server 2003. SL has run just fine previously on these same drivers, it's some kind of recent new check that's failing.
Is there any way to disable the hardware autodetect? I KNOW it runs just fine; this is a bullshit message.

Trimming--
Check your client prefences. There is a checkbox for "Auto-detect grahics hardware on next startup" on the Adv. Graphics tab.
Hope that does it.

since you cant actually load sl to get to the preferances you can change it in the preferances file
your looking for settings.xml UNDER the user_settings folder on your computer, which on my computer is located here
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings\settings.xml
open that file with notepad,(default is IE, which you cant edit) and look for
- <!-- Query current hardware configuration on application startup --> <ProbeHardwareOnStartup value="TRUE" />
change TRUE to FALSE , save the file and give it a go
im not totally convinced this will work but its worth a shot to get you back in untill someone else has an offical awnser

Well... I installed the latest Nvidia drivers, and my frame rate dropped.. Taken a picture was almost impossable, logging out took upwards of 2 minutes, then my hard drive would go into some turbo spin nightmare forever.. I went back to the previous drivers and everything is back to normal..Well normal for SL ... So me thinks the latest drivers offered by nvidia are not supported yet or something..

Good try, Osgeld, but it doesn't seem to work. Thanks for the reply.
