Anyone else having this freezing of the client for about 5 secounds every 15-20 seconds?

Doesn't matter what I do, whether walking, building, typing etc, the client freezes completely for around 5 seconds every 15-20 seconds. I have tried several systems, each with different OS and GC, ram configurations, CPU (Intel and AMD) single and dual core. Checked the router, connection ping, latencies and speed are all consistant.
All other programmes are fluid, no signs of this bug.

It all began with the new 'updated' clients (Standard, Candidate and Windlight).

Along with 'waiting' for all friends list and tp crashes, making a bad experience.

I don't have these issues, I sometimes get slow-down but no actual freezing.

You could try putting object/avatar/tree etc. detail up to full in the graphics tab, and turn off occlusion culling to see if it is OC or LOD that are causing the freezes in your case, I used to suffer form these, but the new Windlight viewer solved it with a much faster Occlusion Culling system.

I had the issue, until I force my antivirus and firewall off in my computer. Especially the Firewall one. I found it most effect the client efficiency. I think it's possible that 5 in 15-20 sec freeze came from firewall or antivirus processing the requests?

I've just accepted it as a part of Second Life - there are times where I will just totally freeze for up to 30 seconds. It's annoying, esp. if I'm in the middle of a conversation with someone. But I'm not about to turn off my firewall! Who knows what could get in.

Accept and embrace the freezes. Be at one with them. Only then will you have peace. :p

What version of the client are you talking about? I don't get this generally, but then I also use Nicholaz BE-v.

I have used all versions/types of the client, Windlight, Candidate and Standard, 3 different systems and configurations.

The one thing that may.. be the cause is OneCare. Although I have had this running on Vista and all was working ok, I set that PC as a HUB for the other systems, maybe its checking the network and causing it, I'll ditch that and try again. Rather than do too much work, I thought I would try and get a general concensus to see if it is indigenous to me, or a general issue. It all seemed to coincide with the update of Windlight, as I hadn't used the other clients for a long time, I assumed that was the culprit (fair assumption given LL's track record). BTW, still the same issue with XP, so its not Vista.

I used to get this all the time, then went to the Nicholaz viewer and it stopped. Just started using the RC client and it's back, but not very often.

as an old timer (actually since BETA) the initial FREEZING started way back when the client was first begining to be enhanced for texture management (1.13) and about every other update since the freezing has gotten worse unless you accept to run the client at its most minimal graphics settings even on a 3000$US Alienware PC. But I guess freezing every so often while moving is preferable to not having ground textures render! :p

PS 1.13 was also started major updates in sim handoff and client timing to allow for better border crossing between sims...interesting that also has gone the way rendering has. I vote we make them put everything back the way it was in version 1.13 and we just live with the GOO :D

I think I can claim "no issues" as I have client version.... 1.18.2.1 (and it still connects to the grid).

(Hehe, silly forums, 1.18.2.1 isn't an IP address you can navigate to!)

I find the whole thing very strange, I have a very good system, specified and built by myself primarily for making machinima in SL.
I disabled OneCare last night completely.. being a MS product it complained bitterly lol.. 'But.. but.. but.. I can't control you and your surfing habbits and report back to Daddy Hollywood that you are watching and doing things he may not approve of' type messages bahh lol..

Anyway, the freezing abated slightly in respect that the intervals got longer between freezing.. I cannot conclusively say it is OneCare.. I checked the system from top to bottom, running stress tests, connection tests etc.. also checked with deep scans (using Black Ice) for any undesireable programmes etc running. Nothing.

Tried Nicholaz viewer but it would not run with the latest version of windlight, guess LL are pitching balls just too fast for those not on the payroll to keep playing catchup, which at best, is a bad shame, as I know Nicolaz does some great work (hint to LL: PAY this guy and get him working for you).

Tried all the variety of clients across 3 completely different systems, no change, that left my router and connection. Both passed with flying colours when running soak tests on them.

Conclusion.. its at SL's end.

I've had SL freeze up for 5 seconds at a time before, but nowhere near as often as every 15 seconds. More like every 5-10 minutes.

It would seem there have been some backbone router issues reported. One of which is quite close to me in London, which effects our connections to the world (probably leaves on the line (old Brit joke)).

Will have to wait this one out. If that is the case, then LL are not to blame.

I had this issue over a year ago then an update stopped it now its back momentary freezes every 20 seconds or so BUT only when I run photoshop with SL. Once its started only a restart fixes it closing PS has no effect. If I don't open PS I don't have the problem. So to me it seems to be running other programs causes mine.

i used to have that, fairly regularly.

until i switched to the nicholaz viewer. since then (back in the fall) ive had freezeups.... maybe two or three times.

the only thing getting me now is when i click the texture swatch on an object to change textures. for some reason, that freezes everything and takes a noticeable amount of time to open.

That texture swatch freeze sound sound an old bug that already fixed in release client to me? :O

Update... I conclude its is the Windlight Client.

I have the latest versions of the standard, RC and Windlight clients, only the Windlight version causes the freeze ups now. That isn't good for me as I am a machinamist. My carefully crafted system is less than good with this new client, despite still being top spec.

I noted many 'updates' in the last two Windlight clients were to 'fix' some bugs in the ATI drivers. I use a nVidia so that leads me to believe they have borked the nVidia API calls <sighs>.

Anyone else having freezing issues that have a nVidia GC, and perhaps combined with the Dual Core AMD CPU? I remember multi core/ multi thread systems causing this issue of freezing sometime ago.

It would seem that LL have 'sorted' out the issue with the 'small update' over the weekend.

My Windlight Client seems 'back to normal', no more freezes. I checked the updates/bug fixes included, no mention of the freezing issue, but it now works for me. Anyone else that has 'updated' still have this issue?
