Last time I tried this in pre 1.6 is I couldn't link two default boxes if they were 4.378 or more apart. Well I got an whole 0.002 extra out of it. Can't link two default boxes 4.38m apart or more. I was hoping this would be fixed or at least some clarity to the linking formula madness. The boxes in the pic below one is at 119.00 on the x axis and the other is 123.38 and fails :(

If this wasn't hindering a project of mine it wouldn't be nearly as big of a deal to me.

Aww, come on Zuzi. You don't think it's a big deal that there is no clarity in the rules of linking? This is only one example of this linking bug. It can be any shape and various sizes though it does work when I increase the sizes the box. If another prim is introduce some how the rules change, sometimes the linking distance is increased. If you look at SLs's wiki it says a linked object cannot exceed 30m. (Wiki) Like I said this wouldn't bother me so much but I been working on a project of mine for a couple of weeks but then ran into this linking bug.

Like it or not, this is the way they designed it. Try making your boxes bigger to get more link distance.

I know this is probably stupid and I am going to get flamed or yelled at. I am not a fantastic builder. I am just trying to be helpful.

Can't you do this

X ------- o -------- X

Where X are the Boxes you want linked and o is an invisible box? That will effectively double your linking distance?

You can even do:

X1 ------- a --------- b ---------- X2

Link X1 to a
Link X2 to b
Link a and b

X1 and X2 are your boxes
a and b are invisible boxes

I know it's not a very efficient use of prims but if your project depends on being able to link prims at a distance, won't this work ?

Thanks for the suggestion. The object I'm working on transforms and supposed to be low prim. I could definately do what you are saying. It complicates things because now I will be using llSetPos on the other invisible prims too. I don't want those invisble prims get physically in the way when transforming. But it looks like I may have to makes some sacrifices to get it to work. I was just being hopeful.

i dunno. i guess they aren't very clear but mainly i know i don't have that problem you're talking about. i can link default cubes anywhere from touching to maybe 10-15 meters apart and in 1.6 with Select Individual letting you move parts of linksets you can link them close and move them apart if you still have problems with it. sorry i can't come on. :D
