1.6 streaming inventory is a great concept, but needs serious work

I am sick and tired of relogging, everytime i open my inventory or search for something, or even just buy or take something, the game drops to like .03 frames per second, and I can no longer move except in circles. Continued waiting results in a brown map, and a broken connection to the server, i.e. relog required. It will still do this even if it has already fetched, and it has been a few hours, I am unsure as to the time frame, but all of a sudden it will happen again., shouldn't the inventory be in my cache? Why would it reload every time? does it have to reload at every login? I realize I need to clean my mess up, to get a better time on its fetch, but geez, does the fetch have to suck all my bandwidth up? Why can't it be a background fetch, that lets me go about my business while it slowly downloads, i.e. bittorrent. Pleeeeeeeassssseeee fix it

Yes, the new streaming inventory is slow to respond and seems to cause quite some issues for the people. Not sure the uproad atm is as bad as the uproar was about people having to wait 3 minutes at login until their inventory was loaded.
Basically, we did trade a long login time with a laggy handling of the inventory.. so.. there was a change, but no real improvement, at least in my opinion.

I would *much* rather wait a bit longer at log-in (and then be done with it) than suffer lag every time I use my inventory in game - which is very frequently. It's also irritating opening inventory folders and having to wait for everything to appear. Particularly annoying when using the texture picker too I have found. After living with it for a while, streamed inventory is one new feature I am not so keen on.

I'd rather have *my* inventory stored on *my* computer so there was no need for streaming it at all.

Perhaps the solution to this problem would be to keep the streaming inventory, but fix the stream-originated lag issue?

From: CrystalShard Foo Perhaps the solution to this problem would be to keep the streaming inventory, but fix the stream-originated lag issue? Even if we could fix the lag issue (I have my doubts), I'd rather just have an option to preload my inventory on login like I used to. IT only took a couple minutes at most, but this streaming system can take 5-10 minutes to fully load my inventory... When I need it right then. It's really annoying to try to build something, or switch clothing, or something, and have to wait for that folder of my inventory to load. This is just setting aside the lag, which is crippling anyhow.

I've had more problems with inventory in 1.6 then I ever had (excluding the insident where one set of attachments overwrote another set)
1. Inventory not properly downloading, resulting in inventory aprearing to go missing. 2. On sim crash inventory reverting. Resulting in loss of any new inventory.
Sim crashes you would expect to be pretty rare. But some sims are more prone to them then others. Navora for example crashes 4 -> 6 times a day.

Re: sim crashing, I also crashed the Dacia sim about four times recently whilst manipulating inventory in 1.6, few times by rezzing a hoverbike, and then when putting on a newly purchased necklace for the first time. I was alone in the sim on those occasions and the timing suggests it was indeed my rezzing that knocked it over. Rather extreme to crash the sim though, didn't think the necklace had quite that much 'bling' On an associated note, why does it take so long to put on / take off clothing items from/to inventory, sometimes several minutes, especially if the item hasn't been accessed for a while. This has been going on for ages now, not just 1.6. I assume it's something to do with the asset server and/or texture baking perhaps ? Some days it's OK, other days it's nigh-on impossible to do any outfit changing at all...

Inventory search troubles
04-12-2005 06:08
This may not be the exact right place but I would just like to say the inventory search function is basically flawed.
I put in search terms and it doesn't find the items.
Manually traverse the folder structure and the item is there.
Do a search after manually finding them item and then the seach function can find it. but it is too late at that point.

I hate the new streaming inventory. Every time I have to open my objects folder, I cringe. I have to wait about 5-7 minutes for it all to come in. Now I know I have a lot of stuff in my objects folder, but that's not the point. The point is that I *miss* the old log in... taking 20 extra seconds at the MOST to have everything load in. Now even my texture folder is slooowwwing me down.
I agree with having my avatar's things stored on my own computer. Or things just reverted back to the way they were.

Hard to store inventory items on the local computer. What about the no copy/no mod items you have? Who keeps people from fiddlign with their local files and "extracting" the item from there, or duping it?
So, back to the old preloading inventory system, I would say..
Or, maybe even better.. get logged into SL from the start, and the inventory is locked until it's done loading completely, and then it becomes (and stays, for that session) available. That would be a really good solution, imho.

*meow* Leopard Loveless No. Absolutely not a good suggestion. With the old system, I was logged into SL within two minutes. In the new system, it can take 10-15 minutes for my inventory to stream to me, and my lag is STILL crippling, even going that slowly. I absolutely would NOT want my inventory locked during this time.

I also *hate* the new streaming inventory.
I have a mahooooooosive inventory, I have over 550 skins, and man, my outfits well, lets put it this way, I have several folders IE Pants Sets, Skirts Sets, Skirts, Pants, Tops etc etc and ALL of those folders have sub folders labeled A thru to Z....
Sad yes, but organisation, I thought would make my life easier.
The search function works perfectly for me, sometimes I can open my inventory and BANG its there, right away, and I don't lag, other times, as soon as its open, its relog time, sometimes I lag that badly for about 10 - 15 mins afterwards I cannot type.
I would much rather wait 5 mins to get in, than 15 mins to get in and out again after opening my inventory.

I do not like the streaming inventory, at all. I've had items appear to be missing, even when searching.. then there the next day. Had an entire folder missing before I logged last night. Was able to say 'guess it'll be there tomorrow', but still.

I'm really feeling that word mahooooooosive. Anyway, me too. I try to apply a texture to an object, but most of my textures do not appear in the texture browser. I have to open my inventory and manually open each subfolder in my textures folder to get 'em to show up in the texture browser. It is a mahooooooosive pain in my shiny, locally-lit, multi-prim ass.
