I've posted about this sever times now, but I figured I'd start a unique thread for it since response has been quiet, especially from the Lindens. Lindens, if you're listening, I've sent more crash reports than I can count, but nothing significant has changed for me from update to update, and I have yet to receive any info/advice.
Okay here's what happens. I start the SL preview and click "Connect". The login begins as normal right up until "Precaching," at which time the program closes and I'm left staring at my desktop. Task manager shows SecondLife.exe as a corrently runing process, but it is not listed as a currently running application, and it doesn't appear on the taskbar.
In previous versions of the preview I've got as far as "Initializing World" before getting kicked back to the desktop, and twice I even got inworld before crashing out (once for about 60 seconds, and once for about 30 seconds; the second time all I saw was a gray void) in the very first version of the preview, but now I can only get to "Precaching". I've tried several times using various graphics options settings in addition to the settings I normally use. Nothing makes a difference. I just get kicked back to the desktop every time, and the process keeps running until I either manually end it or restart the computer.
This is really annoying to say the last, and I'm frightened for the future. Please tell me this will be fixed by the time 1.7 is no longer a preview.
Here are my system specs if anyone has any ideas:
2.54 GHz HT Pentium 4 768 MB PC1066 RDRAM 256 MB nVidia Quadro FX 3000 Windows XP Pro SP2

I've bugged reported the application still running on exit (not only crash) it happens in both my machines.
Also are you wearing flight type attachments? Does the application just quit or does it exit with a sim going down message?

The two times I was able to get inworld, it gave the sim going down message. All other times it's simply quit to the desktop.
And yes, I usually wear a jetpack. Is there a known issue with flight enhancing attachments in the preview or something?

Please try the latest version, 1.7.0.29, to see if it fixes the problem

Chosen Few:
I am sorry to hear that you've had such problems. This posting was brought to my attention this morning, so I'd like to address it now.
I looked at the crash reports that we received for "Chosen Few" -- I see three from 1.7.0.26 but none are from a version later than that. Perhaps some of the worse crashes have not even made it to the point of reporting a problem to us?
We have resolved several client crashing issues in 1.7.0.29; it is possible that our latest preview release may resolve the issue. Please update to that version as soon as possible and see if the issue is resolved.
You can also try a few things now or after updating, such as clearing your cache with the Preferences > Network > Clear Cache button (relaunch required) and logging in. Alternately, you may want to uninstall any preview versions that you had installed and do a clean update to the new version.
Please reply to this post once you've given it another shot. If a crash has occurred, let me know and I will be sure that someone looks at it ASAP.

Thanks for the reply, Karen. I could have sworn I'd filed more crash reports than three, but to answer your question, you're correct, many of the crashes did not end up launching the crash logger. I did allow it to do it's thing every time it came on though, and I really thought that was more than 3 times. Anyway, 1.7.0.29 seems to have done the trick. I've been stable inworld for about 20 minutes right now, and everything seems peachy. My jetpack is having issues though, so it seems Nathan's suggestion may not have been too far off the mark, although it's obviously unclear if one had to do with the other. I'll file a bug report on the odd jetpack behavior. Thanks again for your attention and your thoughtful reply.

I'm happy that the new version has helped clear up your problems. Be sure to submit bug reports if you run into anything else so that we can take action in a future build.

Im not actually sure whats going on now rayne, the release notes page has been updated and reads
"For Preview: Inventory is now fetched from the main grid, so new users can now run preview"
Then again it also says "Users no longer have an extra My Inventory folder on preview grid " and a few other things which seem to still be there. so better post your join date and hopefully karen can enlighten you.

my account info states "Sep-01-2005 14:32:12" as when i created Rayne.

Yes i was made to believe the same early on that it was taken mid-late august, but now the release notes are saying something different so i dont really know. Probably wont be till monday when the preview people get back in the office, unless one is tempted back in over the weekend

well its not a problem, was just curious as to how the new preview would run on my g5 imac. the current version locks up on me (at random times) and crashes quite often (mainly when deleting items from inventory).
1.8ghz g5 imac 2G ram GeForce FX 5200 (64MB VRAM)
been noticing that when i run SL my imac fans run at faster than normal, causing quite a bit of noise. at no other point when im not running SL does it do this.
