I was in my club and since it is a high traffic place, I often check the ARC scores of people that visit. One visitor had a whopping score of 136879. I had never seen a score that high. Judging by her avatar I could not see why she was generating such a high score so I asked her for her help in finding out why.

It was traced to an attachment that was by all appearances just a single invisible ball. So I bought one myself and tried it on. My score went from, 1375 up to a whopping 132459!

I examined the single invisble sphere more closely and saw it had objects stored inside of it. Objects that are not rezzed but stored withing the contents of the prim itself. This is the only explaination I can think of for this simple sphere giving off such a high score, yet how can stored, unrezzed objects be counted towards the rendering cost metric. this makes no sense to me.

Any ideas?

I don't have a specific answer to your question, but thought you might find this article interesting from 'New World Notes' blog in August 2008. Here an AV has an ARC of 132,463 and details the tests that they did.

Thanks for that link Debbie. I further tested what effect this sphere had on my framerate. It had no effect at all on my framerate, as it shouldn't. I wonder how many are wrongly accused of lagging others if they are wearing similar attachments that are giving off false scores and have no effect on framerates. ARC needs to be removed from the client until they work these issues out.

ARC is a great idea, but if it is able to give such false scores then it is useless.

that's what some of us have been saying since it was introduced.
