I own a core 2 duo with an ati 2600 HD PCI-E card 512MB. For some odd reason alot of my graphics options are greyed out. My friend was trying to show me a new feature you guys added by turning 1 prim into an apple and the prim basicly exploded on my end. I have the most updated drivers from ati so I have no clue what the problem is. On top of that the game crashes alot.

I have the exact same issue and the exact same video card!
Many features are grayed out despite this card having direct x 10, loads of fast video memory, and really good ratings on much higher end games. I think it is the problem of Second Life recognizing the features of the card. In a bid for compatibility, they allow the UI to dictate what features you can run instead of just letting people choose what to turn on and off. I just upgraded from a much lower end card that I could run all the bells and whistles on... The difference was it was an GeForce and this is an ATI. |

Have you tried updating your OpenGL drivers? SL does not use DriectX.

In the ATI controller software, have you set the 'eye candy' to 'let application decide?', it may all be turnned off by default. Also check the 'Auto detect graphic card' in SL Preferences? The client maybe confused by the API's of the card if it has functions which do not match those in the GC profile.

I have been having issues with the latest ATI cards (i.e the ones with DirectX 10 support) for weeks without resolution. SL runs for 30 seconds and freezes.
This has been widely reported and NOBODY seems to listen. I exchanged my 2400HD card for an earlier one and it works PERFECTLY!! If you have an issue like this....please complain to SL and ATI. WE need to get someone going. It appears SL isn't reading the card configuration correctly. |

I have several system, all using different configurations of CPU and GC's (nVidia and ATI) without any issues. If you are using the latest ATI GC, it maybe they have yet to release an upgrade driver that fully supports the OpenGL standards, as SL is not a DirectX platform as already stated, OpenGL is what you are looking for. I have used the Omega drivers in the past, they seem to be light years ahead of some manufacturers drivers, maybe give them a go?

Very serious issue with the latest SL version

I'm a new Resident, so please bear with me. I downloaded SL back in September of this year. It worked great for a week, then KABLOOIE! My round objects blew totally out of shape. They appear faceted, even like hexagons. And don't even get me started on the rings or tauruses.
So, I went looking on the Downloads page to see if there was a "fix". I found the new Release Client, so I downloaded that. That seemed to work. For about a week. Now I am having the exact same problem in the Release Client that I have in the regular SL download. I feel like saying, "HELP! I'm stuck in an angular world, and I can't get out!". I have the latest and greatest Nvidia vid card (which I understand Linden Labs supports), and I just upgraded my video drivers last week. Still no good. I've uninstalled and re-installed both SL and the Release Client. No help. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it just me? Your advice will be really appreciated. I want to be able to enjoy playing this game, but it isn't very much fun seeing things in a way that others don't. Thanks. |

It might be your object detail slider level (Adv. Graphics in Preferences, I think).

I've had weird things happening with SL on the ATi HD 2600 Pro that's in my iMac where for no apparent reason my framerate will drop from 25-30fps to 2-3fps (and if I move my camera slightly in just the right direction it'll jump back to 25-30), while with the nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX that's in my desktop it runs perfectly fine.
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2763 < there's the JIRA entry I wrote about it, I have a feeling it has to do with the HD series not handeling a certain type of object well, but I haven't been able to narrow it down. _____________________

Thanks, Draco.
I actually finally put in a trouble ticket earlier this week, and Data Linden gave me the same advice. Who knew! Lol! And, by golly, it worked! My round objects are nice and round now. This game is going to be fun! |

ok guys I tried everything here and it's secondlife that has this issue. They need to update secondlife so it can read these cards.... (when ever that will be.)
