I have quick time, and everything works well... except all but one of my movies fail! Some are swf some are wmv some are mpeg. Everybody keeps telling me that it will run whatever your QT runs... that's a lie. I can pretty much all my videos fine on my comp, but they don't show up, or you can only hear the sound! Anyone else having this issue?

(I know it's more of a client issue then SL, but why don't they run in SL but they run fine in a desktop frame?)

I've had issues with some of my swf files. Some play but others won't. I've tried about 5 different Quicktime Movie (.mov) files and they all work like a charm.

I don't believe wmv files will work. To my knowledge, mpeg, mov and swf files are the only formats that will work.

Get back to you later on the swf files. I've been testing my flash files trying to figure out why some work and others don't.

Yes. One of those which do not seem to work are at http://fairlight.pawpet.de/sl/bunny.swf ... It requires no user input at all, just the average flash file, but I have no clue why it does not work. When I manually open the file locally here, it plays fine. *shrugs*

Oh, btw.. at http://fairlight.pawpet.de/format.mov is a quicktime file that, when you try to play it, will crash the SL client, so be careful. Again, locally I can view it without any problems.

If you people bothered to read release notes ...

The flash player embedded into QT only supports version 5 or lower. The movie in your link is flash 6.

There's a few movie links I've found that just crash SL entirely, as soon as you hit the "play" button. Bug reported them, I'm interested to find out what exactly the reason is those bork out and others work swimmingly.

Also noticing some of the same oddities we used to have with streaming audio - as in, you change the address under Land Options while standing on the land in question, but you have to physically leave the parcel and then return in order for the new address to take effect. I've spoken with others who have to relog entirely in order to get a new address to work.

There's a feature in Flash MX that allows you to save a new Flash file so its Flash 5 compatible. Wonder if that would make the file playable in SL? (Not that its a feasible option for most)

Finally, last night I was fine while I was on the Morris-Ahern-Oak Grove section, but a few seconds after I port over to Da Boom, I completely freeze and have to end task on SL - it just haaaaaaaaangs.

Overall the new features are tons o' fun, but it doesn't seem to be nearly ready to roll off the production line. (Hey Lindens - if y'all end up keeping 1.6 in preview for a while, any way we can get the new building features added into 1.5? I'm drooling over them....)

Well that's smart. Only support older versions. Whee, go LL!

(Is see your sarcasm note ;)

Its the fault of Apple, not LL. Apple is behind with putting latest stuff in their QuickTime player.

This file is encoded using the sorensen codec, that might be why. Has anyone else had
success or failure with sorensen codec files?

I don't know if there's a fancy tool for it, I usually just open the file in a text/hex viewer. The first 4 bytes look like

FWSx or CWSx where x is the version number (in binary, not as text character)

I a movie doesn't start playing the moment you submit it as a URL in a web browser, then it won't immediately start playing SL either. If you are running SL and web browsing at the same time, try opening the movie in the browser and see if the combination of SL's bandwith requirements and the video fight for bandwidth.

You really want to stick with low-bandwidth videos and swf files if you want to stream them AND Second Life at the same time.

As for crashes, make sure the URL you paste into SL doesn't have any leading spaces. I've seen that cause a crash. Removing the space let the movie play fine. Putting it back caused crashes again.
