How Can This Be? Owner Permissions Changed!

I run several shops in Second Life. Today I went to overhaul one of those shops. I began to delete items from the shop that I no longer required until I came to one item that I could not delete. Why could I not delete that item? (rhetorical :) Because someone had managed to change the permissions of that item so that they had become the owner of the item. Bear in mind, it was on sale at the shop. How can another avatar change permissions like that? As we all know, that is not supposed to be possible, so how did this happen?

Before someone asks, all the permissions were correct when I laid out the store. The offending item was part of a set of shelving. It had been set to the groups permissions so that I could rez it in the shop. I personally have not come across this before, maybe some of you have? If this is a bug in the viewer then it could spell trouble for many content creators out there. Let me add, that even though the changes had been made, I do not think they were capable of getting any payments through it, however, I cannot be certain if they did or did not.

I even sent the individual an IM but have heard nothing so far. I have informed the owners of the sim, who are looking into it. Am I annoyed that this has happened, damned right. We pay good money to owners of sims so that we may rent a shops there. The last thing anyone needs is some individual going around attempting to and actually being able to, change permissions. That should not be possible. Perhaps the word 'seething' best describes how I feel at the moment, it's certainly the most appropriate for the forum as I can think of a few that I want to say!

I thought it best to make you all aware of this particular situation so please keep your eyes and ears open. I am about to report it to Linden Labs as I want to get to the bottom of this one way, or the other.

So then, what do you think?

Was it set to 'Share with group"?

There have been some scattered reports recently of contents-for-sale items spontaneously changing to item-for-sale or other oddness, you might go through old transactions to see if the new owner actually bought the item at some point (possibly for L$0).

Thanks for the comments. Osprey, no it wasn't set to share with group.

Thank you for that Salvador, now I know at least that it can happen.

Its a good idea Viktoria and I will be doing that today to see if this did happen.

Thanks again for that :)

Were you seilling the item via a vendor or box or where you selling a copy of the object itself rezzed in world? If you were selling a copy maybe you set it to sell "original" rather than copy thus when the person came to buy the item they became the owner of the object and recieved nothing in their invent and wandered off wondering why X)
