Can you transfer items from "regular" SL to an avatar on a private island?

Specifically, I have my personal av and have become fond of certain designers' works inworld. My company is creating a private island for our employees and I wondered if I could do a transfer across to the private island av. If I know her name, can I search for her? Will the transfer even work?

Thanks!

Private island? Sure!

Private grid? Nope.

People use things like OpenSim to make their own, private grids which aren't really hooked up to the rest of SL. You can't (yet?) transfer stuff between these private grids and the main grid which the Lindens run.

Islands are connected to the main grid... Everything stays the same. Though, flying from one to another ain't quite possible. (^_^)y

Thanks to both of you. And I figured that inventory transfers wouldn't be possible, since the grids are separate - but it never hurts to ask!

My av will be so, so...unstylish!!! ;)

That stinks.

Are you sure it's a private grid and not a private island?

If they are buying a sim from Linden Lab, then it is a Private Island, and is part of the SL grid, and avatars from SL can travel to and from as freely as the sim owners allow.

If they are setting up a sim through OpenSim or one of the other independant companies that are trying to duplicate the capabilities of SL, then no, you can't legally transfer anything that you didn't make 100% entirely on your own. All your dresses and cars and other stuff that anyone else made and that you bought in SL is only licensed for use on the SL grid, unless you contact each maker and get their express permission to export it elsewhere. And VERY few content creators will give that permission right now, since anything that leaves the SL grid and is placed on any other grid can be stolen and redistributed too readily.

For stuff that is 100% your own original work, including all textures, prims and scripts, you can try using "Second Inventory" to move those things.

Assuming you want to tranfer items that you either own or have full perms on, between two different grids, checkout SLInventory
