spontanious linking & link failing - but not too far apart

I have been losing a whole lot of time because of this and I'm getting sick of it.

Things that I'm working on just spontaniously unlink themselves for no reason. I try to link them back up, but I get the "link failed - objects too far apart" message, when they are not too far apart; they where linked up just fine before the spontanious unlinking.

I had a mess o'problems like that last weekend building in Cordova. I'd go to link a new prim to a previously-linked collection, and instead of linking, the whole thing would unlink. After a few primal screams of agony, I just got into the habit of hitting Link twice in a row.

Oddly enough, that entire day Cordova crashed about 6 times on me, I was experiencing prim drift (more than usual), there were oddities with Phantom/Physical permissions (that I couldn't reproduce in another location, or the next day), and a host of other head-scratchers. The link issue was one of many. I eventually chalked it up to Cordova being freaky-deaky that day, as the bug techs couldn't reproduce my errors.

As I have posted elsewhere, your location can have everything to do with this bug. I tried and failed to link a cottage in Hartwick, moved the whole thing to Natoma and linked it OK.

I noticed that my building went from 1 object 23 prims to 24 objects, 24 prims. Someone said on the forums that noticing that and hitting link again solved it for her, but it didn't solve it for me :-(.

I have a building which was only recently finished and has prim rot as well as linking malady. Hope those bugs are near the top of the list for solution.

My problem comes from a set of hair strands I built. One hair strand group is composed of 120 prims. Linking two together to get a larger group of strands give the:

Link Failed -- objects too far apart

error.

I've tried linking them in two totally different districts with the same results. I even tried linking them to a "pincushion" sphere object. I could get one group to link to it, but the other would not link to it at all.

I am quite new to SL so I wasn't sure if I was building things wrong or if this is an actual bug.

The linking rules in SL seem to be based on the rules to Calvinball.

They really should make it "within 20m of the root prim" or something straightforward like that, rather than "whatever we feel like" which is what it seems like it is now.

Linking is odd, smaller prims, smaller the link range but maks 20m, no matter how BIG the prim is.

Odd prims appears sometimes and they go "unlinkable" refuse to let you link "to far away" , only way is to copy the prim again, delete old and then link, this happens alot for me -.-;

I forgot how it goes but if you have 1 big prim link it to smaller it should work easier then have a small root prim, also bigger link range then all the small.
