http://valleywag.gawker.com/5158190/the-end-of-second-lifeFrom the article: "The very things that most appeal to Second Life's hardcore enthusiasts are either boring or creepy for most people: Spending hundreds of hours of effort to make insignificant amounts of money selling virtual clothes, experimenting with changing your gender or species, getting into random conversations with strangers from around the world, or having pseudo-nonymous sex (and let's not kid ourselves, sex is a huge draw into Second Life). As part of walking my 'beat,' I'd get invited by sources to virtual nightclubs, where I'd right-click the dancefloor to send my avatar gyrating as I sat at home at my computer. It was about as fun as watching paint dry." That's what I could never put my finger on about second life but now it suddenly hits me; the truly dedicated second lifers are precisely the same species as LARPers, except infinitely more lazy. Anyhow, I was right. Second life is dying and it's all due to horrific management from the very start. The "Tao of Linden" is an absolute failure. Even Wired has abandoned Second Life at this point. Schadenfreude. Dozens of us offered free consulting from the start to help you pinheads figure out how to do the technical side correctly. I think I recall even offering you (at a time when I could) a special license for the Unreal engine to see what you could do with a few persistence libraries that had been worked on from time to time by people far smarter than me. But nope, you had to bank your 19 million on the idea that people who are too lazy to be LARPers would willingly hang around the tech support platform of Geek Squad Island when they weren't off pretending to be lesbians with giant breasts. Man, you were way, way wrong on that one.

Really, at the moment... I think SL is more successful then it's prepared to handle. (^_^)

*gasp* So if SL is dead, and all us are still enjoying it, must be we all are into necrophilia! Wow! *checks that off list* I almost have my kink bingo card filled up!

Having been around for a while, I can't say that things are better now than they were in '06. SL has become less interesting with each passing year. I still log in from time to time to see if things have improved much, but I find it harder and harder to stay interested.
I can't say many of the new changes are inspiring me to stick around either.
