Is voice even working right?

The dot above my head just keeps going off, then later it's on then off again. All while standing in one place, in my own sims so I know that I am not turning it on and off on the sim...

Anyone else having that?

Besides the still screwed up volume problams, voice effectively seems to just not be ready. What was the hurry in putting this out again? :(

Edit: yeah happening to others too, everyones connections come and go, no one showing up in the nereby speakers dialog either. :(

Seems to me it would have to be a monetary issue.. There is no way this was ready, or wanted for that matter.. They must had a dateline to get it out in order to line there pockets..

Mine randomly turns off and on as well. I often have to relog 5-10 times before the dot reappears and VC is enabled again. And when it's on, the Communicators window still shows no names, as if Voice is turned off, so I can't tell who's talking except by watching all the other dots.

Same here. "Connecting to in-world Voice Chat" -- long wait -- "Disconnecting..."

I haven't been outside the particular sim. But it's not high-traffic or anything in this particular sim.

I did try one-to-one calls with 100% success. After leaving the call it attempts to connect to spatial chat again and sometimes, not often, succeeds.

It fixed it for me, it appears to be a firewall issue

I don't know if it's the same issue or not. My voice was fine in First Look. Loved it!
Now, in the regular viewer, my talk button is greyed out, and voice works intermittently. But, with the button greyed out, I have no control over the voice component.

I shouldn't say this, cause I am opening myself up to attacks, but...

I do not use a firewall, and 99.9% of the time widows firewall is turned off.

So why is voice not working for me, and doing the exact same thing as it is for the people above?

Yes, it tends to happen to certain people, with certain setups.

One way to help (I was told by a Linden) is to have your headset plugged in when you startup...that's what I was told anyway.

And he also said that if your dot vanishes, or you have trouble...disable your voice, apply, and hit OK...then open it up again, and enable it, apply, and OK...then wait.

Mostly it works fine with me. I'm having a dandy time.

since the rolling restart my voice only works for a few minutes before the voice.exe crashes; disabling and reenabling doesn´t help. it was ok in the first look.

My headset is always plugged in.

Tried disabling and re-enabling, no go

And I'm jealous, I love the voice feature...when it works ;).

I’ve experienced all the above mentioned issues over the weekend. Loging in and out seemed to fix it most of the time, but there where what seemed like hours that voice just didn’t work.

New message...

From: someone
[7:38] We're sorry. This area has has reached maximum capacity for voice conversations. Please try to use voice in another area.

When teleporting into our sim where there were about 3 people.

I get the feeling Linden Lab is just taking it easy on the server spending...

Is this for real? You can only have a set number of voicers on a sim/parcel at one time? Is this a number the land owner can set? Or is this a LL ceiling?

I got the same message as Day Oh...and I was the only one on the sim... I guess the voice servers ae overloaded? Already!?! Then, it started to work. A few minutes late, my husband got the same message, and at that point we were only 6 on the whole sim...

I have also noticed that there is a lag effect. When people first arrive, it takes a few minutes after they have tp'd in for voice to start working. So, we're usually having those highly interesting convesations where everyone spends several minutes going: "hello, can you me hear me?" ;)

Mmmm, it is well known that up to 4 sims can share the same server, so it isn't surprising that multiple sims might share a voice server - perhaps even the same 4 sims that share the simulator server.

So I would guess that one or more of the other sims sharing the voice server is using all the voice connections.

Is it working? No! But...

Clearly, with the hurry-up-kill-the-grid move today, there are underlying issues...maybe, if nothing else, making Voice SUCH a corporate/PR Hot-button topic, its inability to play nicely with the other grid-bugs may at least get some of THOSE fixed, if they are interrupting our "precious" voice functionality, at loooooonnnnng last, dammit!

Since I "upgraded" 2 days ago it has been a nightmare. The lag in busy sims has been dreadful, but where it has been ok (i.e. no worse than before) the voice is mysteriously not working.

I wouldn't mind this SO much, but on the occasions I do manage to get voice, the sound breaks up so badly I can barely even manage to get the gist of what they are saying (usually not), and have to text to ask them to repeat it.

It's very strange, because when a DJ streams in their contribution in a nightclub, it is 'live' enough that they are interacting with the text onscreen. The sound then is perfect. Why is there such a difference between that and voice chat?

This varies a lot, depending on theperson.I have some friends that are always loud and clear, and others that are not. I suspect this is more a question of their headset/mic than an SL issue. Distance is also an important factor: you have to be close to them to hear them well (within 20 meters). Another factor is if they have their speakers on as well as their mic, that can really affect the quality of the sound. Finally, if the sound level is too high, you get some distortion, echo, and craking noises.

A DJ uses a completely separate server and stream such as Shoutcast. While it comes into SL via the land music settings, it really has nothing to do with voice.
Also, DJs tend to have better headsets/mics than the rest of us.
