1.16 crashes on startup

Can't get 1.16 to work on my computer. D/L-ed the setup file straight from the website, installed it, and it crashes on launch. I see the SL main screen for a brief second before it disappears and I'm returned to my Desktop. No error messages.

Tried a "fresh" reinstall by deleting the contents of Application Data/Second Life, Local Settings/Temp folders, uninstalling, rebooting, and installing again. Same thing.

Any other ideas?

Freeze on Startup
05-23-2007 14:12
v1.16.0.5 is freezing when "Downloding Clothing." My whole system locks up and I have to reboot? I suspect it's my ATI FireGL card but I've installed the latest drivers. Any thoughts?

I'm in WinXP.

Time to pull out? 1.16 more or less useless!

Before upgrading (sic!) to 1.15 my client was pretty stable.

With 1.15, it started to hang several times a day.

Now with 1.16 Second Life is more or less useless: It hangs several times an hour. (Since I selected "Enable VPU Recover" in Catalyst Control Center, at least I do no longer have to restart my computer.)

WinXP x64 / ATI Radeon X300 (and yes: I do use the latest graphic card drivers).

Please Linden Lab, stop introducing new eye (and ear!) candy features. Make stability the number one priority.

Freezing problem resolved...

...I think.

I, on a whim, restored the original graphics driver for my ATI FireGL that came with my desktop. No freezing, and seemingly better performance. Very very odd if you ask me. I think I have to blame ATI on that one.

I'm sticking with the old driver until further notice.
