New Script Button behavior creates problems

I'm starting to hear about a new problem. People are IMing me, telling me something is wrong with one of their HUDs. When I take a look, they seem to have added a New Script. Most likely they hit the "New Script" button in edit mode without realizing what it did.

In the past, when you hit New Script by accident, it was quite obvious you did something funky because a new script popped up which you had to save to the inventory. But now, it just puts the new script in the object and starts it running. This may sound picky, but I don't think it's very newbie friendly. And for scripters it isn't necessarily optimal either. When I hit "New Script", 99% of the time I want to edit it right away, so you might as well open it up like before.

If you are somewhere and you suddenly start seeing "Touched" spam everywhere, it's probably because someone accidently added a script to some object they are touching (most likely a HUD). What a joy when they have accidently added 2 or more. I'm sure the unaware will assume the device has gone crazy.

Whoa, I never thought of that. That really is annoying. Apparently this changed New Script button behavior was to close an exploit... but I for one wish they'd found a different way to close it. They could at least start the script off not running until it's first modified and saved.

This is an absolutely horrible change that has been nothing but a pain, especially when the default script is such a poor one.

I didn't mind that it auto-compiled and saved to the objects inventory, but now it doesn't pop open a new script window? Oi!

Yes they added this a few weeks back (1.12.0(13) August 23, 2006). Have no clue why they thought this was a good idea becasue it is not. It might just be a side effect of somthing else. Like when you dragging a script onto an object it does not run right away anymore. So now you have open the object, double click the script, check the running box, close all the windows now your set. bleh! and Pfft!

I vote against this feature

You know how there is a feature suggestions? Now I think we need a feature removal forums.
