Thanks to this new update, now I barely see the other end of my land. Before this update, my setting were full on object details, full tree details and full avatar details. Distance to 250m. My fps would be between 15 and 45, if I didn't use local lighting, life was pretty good.

Now, my settings are lowest on the three details and set to reduce distance if below 15fps. I watch the mini map and the distance constantly vary and the fps "tries" to maintain 15fps... the distance goes down to 64m, and the fps goes down to 3.... then goes back up to around 15fps and the distance to around 100m. It cycles every 10-15 seconds....

I read the development update post of today and stopped reading halfway through, I'm giving up.

Activate the previous version, take back the current fully bugged
version and trash it. Please start from scratch this time. Each new version reduces what I can do and see. It's supposed to improve the product, not render it unuseable.

Second. FPS is being highly, highly unstable for me now as well. For no clear reason at all, it seems to swing widly between high readings of around 40, down to around 5 which is agony to even /chat/ in. Normally I get readings between 12 and 26, never extremely high or low like now. It got down to the point that it was /staying/ below 1 FPS before I threw my hands up for the night. In sum, all I have to say is "Way to go, Dev team!"

Wildly fluctuating Bandwidth 12 up to 479 and fps darting between 2.9 and 3.7 today.
That' s standing in one spot. If I fly up, the fps jumps to between 24 -28. The Bandwidth meter loses the plot completely and is all over the place. My usual is around 13-15 fps.

Rezzing of opbjects incl land takes a long long time and some great texture flash displays.
Security fences from neighbours tell me to get off my own land.
I managed to return my neighbours objects, but from her land, not mine... *oops*
Search feature in inventory takes forever find while inventory loads, sloowly
so far am not impressed with the update!

Are these problems with 1.8.4.6 or 1.8.4.7

There was a known issue with viewer FPS in 1.8.4.6.

Can you confirm you are continuing to see these issues with 1.8.4.7? Thanks!

Yep, I'm seeing FPS and texture loading issues too, with 1.8.4(7). Texture loading was notably faster before that update; now some textures take notably longer to load. FPS is lower, down from ~10-15 to ~6-8, and camera movement is shaky. All graphic options except "shiny" are turned off.

The gray loading textures last longer and longer. Rendering is extremely slow.

I climbed on the Whine Wagon after the previous update for the first time (member since November) and I'm sorry to say, I'm climbing on it again for this update.

I have upgraded my motherboard, graphics card after the last upgrade, and am now throwing even yet more RAM at my PC to cope with the performance demand of this upgrade. My original syste, was within spec, btw.

I love SL, and I'd certainly call myself a LL supporter and not a detractor in any way. But I am honestly starting to feel like Wednesdays are "What hardware upgrade do you need today?" day.

It's odd you're only noticing this NOW since, in actuality, SL's been having serious lag issues since version 1.7...

One thing leads to another...

The main point is that texture loading and loading of well, anything has become direly slow. This is from the asset server that was allocated for the number of available users back in 1.6.8 or so which has nearly doubled now along with base graphics upgrades. Basically we're trying to cram too much stuff down the same pipe, the asset server and inventory servers need upgrades says I :P

It's very strange, since my framerate has vastly improved and lag has almost vanished since upgrading to 1.8.

Of course, now that we're moving to Ver. 1,9, I have this horrible feeling that it's about to go to hell again.

Forget the lag what about the log

If you think it sucks for you guys i can't even log onto SL anymore after that stupid update and i've never had any problems with logging in until now, it keeps saying to go to the support page but there's so many subcategories i'm get extremely frustrated with it. It would be better if this update didn't exist.

Slower and slower for me as well
03-16-2006 12:16
I have noticed the same behavior as well, I cant see very far, it takes along time to load, ( with an almost barren island) and I jerk and stop and almost cant control my AVI most of the time, I know my PC isnt exactly a screamer with 2 gigs of RAM
but performance in SL shouldincrease NOT decrease, if this doesnt get better in the nex rlease or two I guess Ill have to leave SL and ID hate that but Im having a harder time playing myself
Whats going on?
If we need more RAM, video or whatever why cant we be warned?

:) I am running better then ever now with 1.9. Speed is better with less stress then in past clients. Problem is my home point. FPS is more stable then befor infact. i am at 45fps and 35fps dils are .99 to 75..........
It might all be Line based or your system. To me Its seems the system and lines are causing these problems then the client its self.

1.9 is a BIG improvement here -- especially on the laptop
03-16-2006 20:18
My frame rate is no great shakes -- I'm happy when I get above 5fps on this little thing. (Blame the integrated graphics. My desktop is much better, but sometimes I want to be able to be in-world while on the go.) But 1.9 has increased the frame rate to about 1.5x what it was before the upgrade, and the gray goo is gone -- all the textures actually display without coaxing!

Just athought. How many other Avies are you running on your system?Thats also can cause a reduction in reduce frame rate. If I remeber right from a lindens telling a group mentor chat the more avies you have running on your single computer the slower fps drops.

I used to run SL with a draw distance of 256m anywhere I went. Since 1.9, I keep having to reduce that distance in order to keep above 10fps for the viewer. Whenever I stray away from my home in Weber, which is right next to empty water sims, my draw distance falls to 64m and the viewer fps can't even maintain 10fps.

As I said during the short v1.8 life, I give SL 2 months to get better. Now down to one month. No improvement will just mean SL will loose one minor player who can't afford wasting money on a constantly degrading overburdened chat platform.

8000+m of land will go to governor Linden on the 10th of April.

I think my birthday is in May... whatever.
