Important Billing Update from Linden Lab

I received the "Important Billing Update from Linden Lab" email telling me there's a problem with my billing info, but it does not say which account.

I have three paid, premium accounts. None of them are due for a renew. None of them pay tier. All of them have successfully bought lindens. I have no credit cards that expire this year.

I am instructed to use the update billing info link on the support page. When I do that I am told the old info will be deleted if I hit the button. So, there's no way to look at the old info to check if it is correct.

I have no way to determine what's wrong. Support hangs up on me after keeping me on hold for twenty five minutes. The live chat thing is doing nothing. I'm not even sure hitting the send button works, as I get no feedback and I don't know what it's supposed to look like when it's working.

Is this Lindenese for "we lost your billing info, please re-enter it"?

I would be wary of that if I were you. I know there are several scam artists who do the same thing using EBay trying to get people to enter in their account information on a fake EBay page that is an exact duplicate of the real site. Then your info gets whisked off to some fraud artist who does God knows what with it.

I would go to the actual Second Life website and double check all of my information for each account. If there are any discrepancies in what you know should be there, then correct them yourself. If they still don't work after that then something else is the problem. But I certainly wouldn't go to their site directly off of an E-Mail link. It's much too easy to redirect you to a fake site or to intercept the data on the way to the real one with some intermediary exploit activated via the e-mail link.

If it's a scam then it has an insider at linden labs involved. It was sent to an email address that I've given only to linden labs, and the link in the email is forwarded to the secondlife website, where I am already logged in and it is showing me correct account info.

Oh okay well I guess that's one worry out the door then : )

Is it possible that there was just a one time hiccup when they ran a charge through for something? Like recurring membership? I've had that happen to me. A failed transaction automatically sends the e-mail address on file notification that there might be a problem with the card? I dunno...

Do all three accounts use the same card and billing address? Can't understand why they wouldn't be more specific...

Update:

1. Live chat works only with Internet Explorer. It doesn't seem to do anything in Mozilla and it crashes Safari.

2. Linden Labs should know better than to send an email that looks like a phishing scam. In fact, the email does not come from LL direct, and the link is not a LL web address. It does forward to the secondlife site, though. But that can be faked, too.

3. The problem turns out to be that I can not have all three accounts on the same credit card. Live chat told me which one needed to changed.

i got the same Message..
An upgrade of our billing system recently revealed minor discrepancies
in your billing information. To get everyone back on track we are
asking that you update your payment method via the website as soon as
possible. If you have a balance due it will be billed to your account
within 24 hours of your update. If you do not update your information
and you have a balance due when we bill, your account will go
delinquent. As always with delinquencies, you will then have 7 days to
pay your balance. After 7 days the account will go on hold and you
will not be able to login without clearing your balance. After 30 days
your account will go defunct and you will lose any inventory, land and
L$ associated with the account.
To upgrade your payment information:

1) Go to secondlife dot com
2) Login to your account
3) Click upgrade payment method
4) Upgrade with either credit card or Paypal, your choice
5) Follow instructions
6) You’re done!

difficulty making changes to your account, please contact billing
through the support portal:

So, are they expecting to get all of our CC accounts then? Their developers can't fix anything, now they want more bank info and use man in the middle tactics and can't even get in here to respond either?

Please vote on this issue. No internet service provider should be sending e-mails relating to accounts, passwords and/or billing from third party e-mail addresses, nor be using third party URLs in such e-mails. We need to make sure that LL heeds this and changes their policy accordingly.

It's called "you owe them money and haven't paid them."
As such they can "reposess" your account, which for SL means clearing the database of the stuff that takes up space: inventory. You lose your land as you aren't paying for it, and lose your L$ because it's little more than a currency to access the system--heck, they can then sell that L$ to other players and recoup the money you haven't paid them.

:confused: :confused: ????? owe them money ? uh.. not at all i never bought Linden dollar or something i have to pay to LL :mad: i have to repay 72$ in september only for a new year so what the hell is that..
