I'm definitely disappointed in the decision to cover the extremely valuable bandwidth and lag indicators that used to be in the upper right hand corner of the screen. As for the new Lag Meter. It's, frankly, a joke. Red light. Yellow light. Green light! Ha! A bar indicator in fact gives one 100% of range. And it took up so very little space. Zen! 3 color lights are not enough information and furthermore even in the condensed version it takes up too much real estate. I'd like to know who to personally thank for the foolish placement of the search input. Please vote to restore the indicators: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3156- Infrared

I agree. Search doesn't need that extra small checkbox. And indeed the lag meter is kids stuff, has no real value at all. Bandwidth and package loss indicators are far more informative.

From: someone Random Linden: Alright. After many, many hours of brainstorming on how to make the UI more intuitive to new residents, we've come up with a way to simplify the indicators! Two vertical bars is just too confusing, we're going to use three flashing, coloured lights instead. I wouldn't be surprised if that's how it came to be .

From: HoneyBear Lilliehook The link I referenced is correct...the only difference is that it is a secure server. - Infrared

From: Dekka Raymaker in conjunction with stats I find it much more useful then the two bars The "lag meter" doesn't give any more information than the statistics, it just presents it differently: Client = FPS Network = Sim Ping in combination with Packet Loss Server = Time Dilation

the left bar never indicated lag anyways, it indicated packet loss... that's VERY useful (although the bar pegged at ~3.8% you can mouse over for the total %) one more reason for me to hate the newest version eh?

Hey Void...thanks for pointing that out...the left bar "was" packet loss. Not lag. =) (Even though packet loss contributes to lag.) I don't hate the new version. I just think that by reducing the width of the search input box a few pixels..and tightening up the spacing between the other items on the top tool bar, we could still have the two bars. Then we'd have 3 ways to monitor: the original bars, the lag meter and Ctrl-Shift-1 (full statistics bar). Usability studies require gathering input from users; I hope LL has not moved beyond that time-tested strategy. - Infrared

So you have to, like, open up the stats box (or keep it open) in order to see what kind of packet loss you are dealing with moment to moment?

Personally I don't care if they are flashing lights or meters or jumping frogs
a) although client fps, server fps and ping times are useful so are packet loss and bandwidth meters
b) the indicators need to be in the menu bar so that they can remain on screen without cluttering up the already busy main window with even more windows.
