It really is amazing. I haven't seen technical incompetence of this magnitude since the introduction of ISDN in the US in the mid 90s. No one knew what the hell they were doing then either.
But this is a bit different. Repeatedly, Linden Labs, people have told you what the problems are and how to fix them---and repeatedly you have swiped the ideas with absolutely no reference (unethical, but common), and then managed to completely misunderstand the solution and implement it backwards and three sizes too small. Then everything breaks again, in exactly the same way.
It is only too painfully clear that you have no interest whatsoever in customer satisfaction, and that the greatest of your interests lie in getting acquired. The incompetence you're showing is precisely that of every company in a M&A phase within the last 15 years. I realize that you're not populated by complete idiots; but that this incompetence is an acceptable loss in the interest of keeping your numbers all shiny and neat.
The problem is, you should have sold a year ago, before the big companies that idiotically invested time and revenue to build very pretty sims (IBM, Sony, Geek Squad, etc) noticed that no matter how pretty and cool they built themselves in Second Life, no one would come.
Now that it's been shown repeatedly that Second Life doesn't hold commercial attention, that it is also largely a fringe "geek" community, and that the numbers on the website may not be inflated, but are completely invalid for value calculation anyhow, it's too late to get acquired by anyone with the resources to fix this mess.
So why not regroup and make a new plan? I suggest this one:
Stop adding new crap until you fix the old crap. If you don't know how to fix the old crap, hire people who do. And while you're doing that, tell everyone exactly what's going on all the time, especially your paying customers---because if it's not in your cards to be acquired, you're going to need every one of them to survive.

I agree on all points, I also suggest LL looks up the term "automated regression tests" and implements some of those for all those bugs that appear, are fixed, reappear,...

Hi All You say ""Incompetance"". Your absolutely right Total incompetance and not knowing exactly what your doing. When will SL understand. The game is falling apart because they just dont care anymore about issues. They would rather introduce a totally useless idea before fixing problems that we all shout about. But do they listen . No they dont. Why did they take live help out. Because the Lindens were getting barracaded every second about problems. If they were to fix the problems they wouldnt keep getting moaned at. This has been going on for two years now one major problem after another and it takes forever to get sorted if ever it gets sorted. You are blamed for the problem like its your machine or GFX card or something else. Do they really know whats going on ? Then when a new release comes out the problems seems to have dissapeared. So why blame residents machines in the first place. How long is it going to be today before the money issue, the friends list and other Major things we need in SL going to get fixed. No good waiting for the blog to update us. That also takes them forever to give us a realistic answer to the situation. Incompetance. Havent got a clue whats going on. Are the Techies at Linden really techies. Or are they just a bunch of kids dragged out of school and given SL to practice on forth Computing experience ? SL for the last time LISTEN to what people tell you. Stop adding stupid things we dont need and FIX the problems we tell you about. Stop making excuses. Get some new 2007 servers that might help Like many other residents I am fed up with the nonsense in SL Disappointed as usual Sam

I very strongly suggest that anyone who is as fed up as I am do the same thing, and just cut the tie.

I'm totally with you there, As of my next pay period, I'll be going back to freebie if I don't just cancel entirely. LL has no clue, no coding skill, no support, and no PR. We can ask them a million times over to fix something, but the bottom line is that they DON'T KNOW HOW. I'm waiting for the day they either pull the plug or sell to someone that knows what they're doing, so I can either drag my friends here to a game that's stable EVEN IN BETA, or give my money to the new company that listens to their customers. I would bet that if 20k of their 'supposed' 8 million+ users quit, they'd go bankrupt.

This is an unpatched exploit not a bug

A trip to the beta grid will show you that all is working well there. It seems that someone is taking advantage of an exploit that was discovered back in February with lsl communications.

And stop coming up with all this new stuff before you nailed down issues that have been there..... foreeeeeeeever....

The Linden Scripting Language is absolutely an abomination of programming in itself, as demonstrated quite clearly if the above quote is true. If it is true, why has this exploit that was discovered back in February not been fixed? There are so many things wrong with LSL (not the least of which the fact that an entire sim can be brought to its knees in under ten seconds with one nastily constructed line) that it should be trashed completely. There's no reason to not write a nice SL Python module (or whatever scripting languages gibbons can understand--you'll forgive my lack of expertise with gibbons). And, the reason that the beta grid is "working well" is that it doesn't currently have 29,000 clients on it all trying to do things at the same time. Of course it works well.
