Huge increase in "ghost" objects and scripts since last update

If you own land or especially islands beware that since the last update I have noticed a huge increase in ghost prims. I used to get them once in a great while, but now I find them every day. Ghost objects are those that appear to be deleted but the physics engine still thinks they are there (you can bump into them) and any scripts inside them continue to run. (I am not talking about ordinary invisible objects, which can be viewed and deleted using ctrl-alt-t.) Worst of all, even estate managers can not delete them or even disable the scripts within them. You will still see the scripts listed in the estate tools and indeed they are still drawing sim resources! These really add up after a while. The only way to get rid of them (according to concierge support) is to restart the sim. So I have been restarting my sim twice a day. A real pain!

I have exactly this problem right now. I saved an earlier version of a house I am building to inventory, only to discover that most of it is actually still on the land in the form of invisible architecture I can't select or delete.
I'm on the mainland. Can one request a restart there??
Also, even if reset, it's obviously happened several times and its made me scared to "take" anything at all.

I am not sure about the mainland... I think you have to request one from the Lindens probably via a support ticket, which will take forever.
The problem is getting worse... I did a more detailed test today...
I keep much of my island (Oz) available for people to use for building. The number of active scripts went form 1600 to 3600 over the course of one day. After showing no objects on my land (besides the ones I had accounting for the 1600 initial scripts)... after returning all objects of others and turning off scripts it still showed 3600 active scripts and the sim went from a time dilation of 0.99 to an unusable time dilation of 0.03. After a sim restart to rid the ghost scripts... it went right back to 0.99 dilation and 1600 active scripts.
Having to restart a sim so often just to keep it useable is getting too obnoxiously annoying to be paying this kind of monthly fees.
I’d like to know if any others who allow a lot of building on their land is having the same problem with deleted items often leaving ghost scripts behind. I will have to contact concierge again tomorrow.

You CAN request a restart and no, it does't take forever. I've had to do it twice and in both cases it was very fast (one even after 5 minutes)

That explains what happened to me earlier to day. Was wondering what I had done wrong.
Must be a new feature.

@ Lighshaper
I am not sure how you request a restart on the mainland but Alyx claims they did it quickly at least. I would assume it is a specific type of support ticket. Island owners can restart their own island by themselves.
@ Sue
Ghost objects and scripts can be hard to find. If you do not have estate tools, you can detect ghost objects by "feel"... you will bump into them because they are still in the Havok physics engine. First be sure it is not just an ordinary transparent object by using ctrl-alt-t to highlight transparent objects red. If you have estate tools, you can you can list the top scripts. You may see scripts owned by people who are not on your land nor have objects on your land any more. This could mean the object was "deleted" but left behind a ghosted script. Estate managers can usually disable specific scripts or return the object they belong to but this does not work with these ghosted objects. You have to restart the sim as far as I know, that has worked every time for me. One other final hint is to watch for a huge increase in active scripts listed in the debug/stats window.
I have been keeping build off in my fields most of the time while I look into this more. I contacted a neighboring island that runs a small sandbox and they too claim to be having the same sorts of problems with ghost objects.

Spankme, thank you, No estate tools here I only own a parcel, not the sim. But I will investigate. I was thinking of asking for a sim restart anyway, as I'm getting some lag that shouldn't be.
Lightshaper, you can request a restart from the SL web site. I usually contact my sim owners and they are wonderfully responsive.

Yup have noticed this happening again and even had my 3 story mini castle go ghost in a sand box while working on it. Was odd standing 3 storeys up on thin air, but as soon as I realise what happened, I IM'd the owner for a restart.
As for finding them, well you can walk into them unless they were phantom when it occured, your turning about and your view suddenly shortens when theres nothing visible behind you.
Shouldn't be a hard fix, the Lindens already cured the problem once so i dont expect it will take too long to be corrected this time.
