I know that most ppl here think that the new AR systemworks great, and up to a certain point, I agree. It does work fast....however, I'm hearing more and more ppl who's accounts are disabled. And they have no clue why. As I already stated in another thread, a very close friend of mine was accused of being underaged. Someone filed an AR against her and poof! Account gone....Imho this is not how it's suppose to work. Anyone here that knows me, also knows that I'm not the person that rants for no reason, but this new AR needs some attention by LL. Banning ppl and not giving reasons is a matter of common courtesy, but banning ppl who are falsely accused is much worse!

Oh sorry Mandy, I stumbbled into your thread without realising it was a personal question .. response thread...  .. j/k... It would seem that the LL team has decided that the best way to remove anyone potential of asking questions of them that aren't programmers, is to decompile the system.... before long you will have to speak machine code to support.. But we cannot all directly mail the Lindens. My SL partner has been locked out for 7 days and he was not able to get any response from the support email or the phone helpdesk. It just cost him a lot of money to call a non-tollfree number from Brasil just to be ignored and/or put on hold. Clueless as he was to the source of the problem he contacted his ISP who tried to help him, to no avail of course, since LL had apparently blocked his MAC-address. If LL had be so polite to tell him he had been blocked and why and for how long, a lot of cost and frustration would have been saved. After exactly 7 days the problem was suddenly solved. It has clearly been some sort of punishment, but we still have no clue why. If you go to puppy school, you learn that is no use to punish your dog if the poor beast does not know why he is being punished. All that will do is alianate your pet from you. Maybe we should send the Lindens to puppy school?

Seems strange they would block a MAC address, thats a internal router asigned identification for networks, and you can change that easily. Maybe they blocked the IP address, although thats risky as some are outlets for Proxy networks, or as in the case of routers, can support many users from one IP... you can change your IP as well.. (if you know how)... so can't see how or why, they could/would do that.

The client sends an identifier based upon the system's configuration, including the MAC address. This identifier is probably what people are referring to. The reasoning for this seems to be that if you are a repeated griefer (for instance), LL can ban your particular system, not just your IP address, which can easily be changed. Of course, as noted, so can the MAC address. Users can also use an open source client that alters this indentifier. Woot. sighs

Mandy C While it is certainly a pain in the backside, usually a quick phone call to LL resolves the issue. I've heard that people get the best results when they ask to speak to somebody on the Abuse Team. They're the ones that deal with the AR's every day, and they comprise a fairly small percentage of the company. The rest of them aren't as familiar with it, and are sometimes slow or reluctant to take action without consulting the Abuse Team first. Another caveat is that even if your problem has been cleared up, you may not know about it - the Lindens don't generally call or email you to tell you that your account has been restored, and this is unfortunate because it unnecessarily raises the stress level of everyone concerned. If you've sent your email to Linden Labs and it's been a few days, try your account again - it might just work!

Woot. sighs Yes but not the CPU ID, changing that will cause your system to stop booting at worst  If they ban that part of your hardware (and you wouldn't know it if they did) there's no way to get around it short of buying a new PC. Of course you could try to spoof your CPU's ID but then you'd end up running a slower CPU and it wouldn't be beneficial to you. solution: wait out your ban or talk to the Lindens about getting it repealed or spend $1500 on a new PC. Also if you're hardware banned, it won't tell you what part of your hardware was banned, you could very well spend $2000 before you figure out which part it was. I laugh every time this happens to cheaters on Punkbuster because it costs them money to get back into the game. the little toddlers go crying to their parents for a new PC.
