It seems when I log in that I'm not connected, then it connect for about 4 seconds, then dissconnects again. It only stays on in short bursts. I've tried reinstalling, configuring, updating, everything. What should I do?

I run on Windows XP on a VAIO, with a Pentium 4 CPU 2.60 GHZ, and 512MB of RAM, on a DSL Cable Modem.

I used to run SL perfectly until the update.

Any help?

DSL Cable Modem
 Which is it, DSL or cable?

Are you sure it's actually disconnecting, or does it seem to be freezing? I've had a problem like that since this last update - seems like heavy traffic stops the renderer under certain circumstances.

Ahem... you know what I'm going to say...

wait for it....

Firewall!!!!!

Seriously, this does sound like a firewall issue. Have you tried disabling virus blocking/ Norton's anything software? Also, you said you reinstalled but did you remove all traces of SL before reinstalling? I believe there is a wiki article that covers that. I have just succumbed to doing that at every update instead of just running the updater.
