I am new to this and just installed the 1.7 program. Installation seemed to have worked fine but the program will not launch when I execute it.
Anyone with similar issues and hopefully solutions?

yes it does the same for me, it wont load either.
I bet your c:/documents and setting/username has a non US charater in it right? such as "é" or something..

no real solution that i know of .. i emailed tech support about it but all i got was a loosy automated reply telling me to try in-game help (DUH!)

I've seen around the forums that if your computer username has a special character in it you can access SL through your computer's admin account.

Yes either that (if it doesnt have the character) or create another windows account without a special character till they fix the bug

Never said it was, you were looking for a solution and one was given, and it works until they have time with the texture problems etc to fix the bug

Hey RemZy!
It took the people at There almost 2 years to fix the exact same problem!
I REALLY hope the Lindens will be more diligent than that!!!

I hope they realize SL is used by people from all over the planet, and on that big ball, some people use accents on some words... like their name.

Of course, I created a new user and can access SL logging under that name, but it's a major pain to logoff, then log back in Windows. It screwed up my "watchdogs" like my firewall, antivirus and anti-spyware softwares.

Anyway, I went to the church the other day, lit a few votive candles... ;)

ok, since I installed the new 1.72 update here is my dilemma.....I can log on fine and dandy BUT...after a minute or two music quits and I am standing there unable to walk or fly!!!!!! This was never a problem before THIS update *grrrrr*

ANY suggestions as to why THIS is NOW happening? I'm about ready to just quit altogether SL! Before the 1.71 update SL was running TOP why mess with something and not put emphasis on getting SERVERS?

Limited resources is "what is up with that". There are much bigger issues impacting a much larger silce of the user base pie. Until they are delt with those issues, things that impact a minority of users will be on the back burner.
