What I Love About 1.7

Yah, I had some major glitches, the grid being down all day sucked, but lets try to look at the good, shall we?

1) The map is fantastic - both graphic wise and because I can type in Landmarks and have them auto complete rather than search for the one I want in a drop down.

2) Loving the blue outline in edit that seems to distinguish between the root prim and the other linked parts. Pretty color to boot.

3) The "Open" in the pie menu will be very helpful to new players - nice touch.

4) When someone makes a purchase at my store, the pop up in the corner displays what they bought - LOVE THAT!! THANK YOU!!

Thats just what I've noticed so far and that made me smile today. Since this forum is called "version 1.7 feature feedback" and not "version 1.7 bitch until you puke," I guess I just figured the Lindens deserve to hear what we love as well. Not that I haven't bitched - lol - but hey, there's 2 sides to everything.

I'm likin' your attitude! I can relate. :)

I like 1) a lot too... way faster for me than jogging that slow, tired dropdown. It was inevitable, and now it's about time. So wonderful to have this!

Brent Linden pointed this out to me in the Preview Grid. I didn't notice it at first, but now that I have, even for modding items, it's welcome.

We're on the same thoughtline here, Janie! Same goes for CLEAR CACHE BUTTON. Muhahaha. I lurve when a whole bunch of steps are consolidated into something simple and useable. The old way of getting stuff from boxes was a PITA and made no sense. And just about EVERYONE uses it! :)

I didn't know about this because I don't make schtuff like you do (and you make so much schtuff) but that sounds like a really welcome addition.

Hahaha... great, balancing things out. :D

The edit outline was a great surprise! i really think it adds a lot to the flavor of SL.

I've yet to have someone buy something while I'm online, but the feature decribing the purchase is something i've wanted for some time. It'll be much easier to track popular items now :)

The first thing i noticed was the trees> Woah, do they look good!

Everyday i find something new (i never did read the updates and changes... i'm just not an owner's manual kind of person) and it makes me smile.

better feet shadows

I like that the shadows on our feet are now BELOW our feet.. Sometimes I could not detach shoes because it would treat the shadows like clicking on yourself. Now they seem firmly planted on the ground.

THANK GOD.

I sell shoes with clickable features and the shadow gets in the way of clicking. So I would have to tell every customer they needed to zoom under the shadow that extends from their ANKLE!

YAY FIXED! :D

An insidious problem has just sunk lower. :) Nice observation, Blueman! That's one... uh, step in the right direction. And now what's next? :D

O... wait... :(

I can't seem to achieve this consistently with my platform shoes. The first time I tried it after reading here, it worked nicely. Then I TPed, and it was back to more clickity-click madness for some reason. Even in Edit mode, I have a hard time targeting. Look at the centerpoint here... I'm clearly clicking on the prim heel and it still brings up the pie menu. Clicking all over also yielded the same results, at least until I flew into the sky.

The blue halo is great yes, as far as 'Me and my shadow" ordeal another trick besides hovering is to make a posing stand thats transparent because for some reason those shadows are intimidated by poses. plus you can generally go into the pose stand turn 180 script and set the hover height of your AV to a higher position.

Janie: I have to say thank you for posting this. I was starting to think nobody in the world (the SL world, that is) had anything but negativity toward the new version! I don't post on the forums often, and I complain, um, NEVER, but as much as some things in SL may suck at times, I grin and bear it, because I'm sure it'll get fixed eventually :)

I admit I've had my share of grief with 1.7, and given my share of negativity here in the forums. Actually we all need some place to vent about things like that. But it seems that the little updates after and whatever they did the other day has fixed a lot of the problems. When I finally got back into the game the graphics were beautiful and things have been running extremely well. I have a store where I sell fountains so there are a lot of textures and scripts on my land, but the lag problem seems to be solved. I'm glad I stuck it out - it was worth the wait.

Just thank you!

After all this praise of small specifics. important to all you experienced experts but almost indiscernible to a bozo newbie like me, may I just thrust in a simple and sincere 'thank you' for a few of the grosser improvements in 1.7.2?

For example, no crashes, when there were about 4 or 5 an hour when the new 1.7 was introduced?

The increased speed? bandwidth? Duh, er, well, whatever it might be, BUT the overall functional improvement which means I can now open up many of my defaults, see my horizon at more than 90 metres and my Avatar as God intended her several-$k-worth of photorealistic body to be?

And, just for once in this sad old Bill Gates- driven PC world, how _very_ satisfying to see the Lindens tackling some problems that affected only the Macintosh (the computer of choice for all people of sensibility and discernment, you understand) and tackling them (so far so good....) to great effect.

Kindly form an orderly queue for a BIG /hug <Linden> from me, you fellows, whenever you happen to be passing my cottage in Palulop 176,168.

Kind regards,
Anima Graff
