Ok. On my little laptop that could, it has an intel extreme graphics chipset. Yes, I know it's not supported.

Nevertheless, it works in the 1.6 preview, but not in the "live" grid. The live grid used to work prior to the 1.5.14 patch as well. My guess is you guys forcefully made intel graphics chipsets not work :P

All I'm asking for is the remote possibility to keep some sort of compability with these chipsets. SL does wonders for the 2 hours on campus between classes.

If you DIDNT forcefully break the intel chipset in 1.5.14, then disregard this message. :)

Did I read somewhere that the latest build of SL 1.6 includes improvements to Intel Extreme 2 compatibility or was that from an alternate reality? Something seems so familiar about this. Confirmation?

Bah down with intel ... may AMD technology put them in their place forever. I run AMD 64bit processor and a geoforce card. May the force be with AMD forever :-)

One of our fixes for 1.6 is limited support for Intel cards! It is in the release notes. So when we publish 1.6 to the live grid you should be able to use your Intel cards there as well.

this is good news

THis seems like good news, I have a TINY laptop that i would like to run SL on. My main computer runs it like a dream, however, this Dell 700m has only a IntelĀ® Extreme Graphics 64mb integrated card for SL to chug away on. It would be fantastic if I were able to get it working without the avatars textures screwing up.

Is there a list of supported (or soon to be supported) video cards?

UPDATE/EDIT:

"Changed notification text on discovery of Intel Extreme Graphics chips
to indicate that they are not currently supported."

NM i guess i found my answer. Ahhh well, I still run it easily from my home comp. No SL for me on business trips tho :(

Actually, the thread you've posted in is four months old, and the quote you've selected from the release notes is almost six months old. Intel graphics are supported and have been since about a week after this thread was started, though your laptop won't like running SL much.

If I'm reading your post correctly, you've already tried it, but are having problems with your avatar textures? Can you post a screenshot of what avatars look like on your laptop? Is the problem consistent, or does it only apply to certain avatars?

Whoa

whoa a real ninja...

heh, i didnt relaize the post was so old. I try to take everything in before i post- so thorough was my investigation I forgot to consider the age of posts. My bad.

as far as the phenomena that occurs, my avatar is constantly switching textures with the environment. one second its a rock, another its a wood texture, pretty much anything that is in view; my avatar grabs as its own texture for a split second, the result is a chameleonic body of flickering in the form of a woman. Other avatars do the same thing.

I will post a pic when get home from work. All my drivers are up to date, the laptop is actually a fresh install. hmm...

I have tried screwing around with the cache settings (deleting the cache folder etc.). If this chipset IS supported I am pretty confused, the system install is only several days old.

Edit. ok here are the pics of whats going on..

the third pic show what happens with the menus when i open them, again they adpot whatever is in the main screen... odd huh? I just downloaded th enew patch, giving me a little hope but it was no help.

I think i'm 'scrood'

What video drivers are you running currently? Do these ones work any better?

well that sucks

No matter what driver i download, I get the same message

"the driver cannot be installed on this computer,

please contact the ocmputers manufacturers for further information"

meaning Dell has somehow locked me out of updating drivers outside of their support site. Worse their support site for their srivers reads:

Release Title: Video: Intel Extreme Graphics 855 GM, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System, v.6.14.10.3889, A11
Release Date: 04/28/2005
Description: Corrected default behavior of Fn-F8."

note the only update is with correcting Fn key behavior. Intels latest driver is from July26th.

BAh this is crazy. I guess until Dell decides to release a new driver, OR I buy and install the "unDell-ed" install of Xp home im stuck.

I downloaded a new and latest Driver pack for my grpahics chipset adapter. I extracted the driver into a folder with winrar and forced the update driver wizard to look in the folder. Then it was just a matter of choosing the correct (latest) driver.

Everything looks great now, no more adopting enviromental textures etc. It should be noted that Dells drivers are terrible, and they FORCE me to use them.

Thank you for your help. Im learning a lot from BADGEOMETRY
