For the longest time, SL have had a certain batch of big, known bugs following it from release to release. Have any of these bugs finally got handled and fixed in version 1.6? For example, I noticed that Ghosting is still going on...

Ghosting's a real pain to fix, I assume. You'd have to update data on items that no longer exist; kind of a "Remember, this object is a GONER!". And the thing about that is... how long do you keep doing that? SL uses UDP, I assume, because of this: you don't want the extra overhead, and (so many of) the verifications.
But I think I'm out in the fields with this one.

Thanks to some user repros, we have a good repro case for ghosting in preview and are working on it. Agree it needs to go.

Philip, did you see the repro case with cross-border sims I did with Dan?

Nope, that sounds like something else - we'll work on that too. This was (I think) the more common case - deleting lots of objects and having some of them remain.

I've noticed scripted objects tend to ghost a lot more than non-scripted, as well. I will have to do a couple tests on this next time I'm on, since I know now the team's focusing on it.

p.s. Thank you thank you thank you for weblinks and implementing a bunch of the developer requested features!

If I understand correctly, wasn't ghosting supposed to be a high priority bug already, so saying "agree it needs to go" and "we're working on it" isn't really saying anything meaningful?

Shhh SuezanneC, you'll bring on the wrath of the Linden-apologists with statements like that. Everything is fine, go about your business people, just look at the bugs we've fixed in 1.6...

* Fixed camera jitters on entering and exiting edit mode.
Nothing major (can't say I've ever noticed it), but appreciated

* Estate rules: "banned users" now takes precedence over "allowed groups"
Of great importance to the majority this one no doubt - and yes, that's coming from somebody who owns a private sim

* Rotations of prims are now clamped to the nearest half degree
This was a bug was it before?

* Fix for llRequestAgentData where it failed under certain circumstances.
Which mysterious circumstances? How was it failing, and what does it do now?

* Fix for item on curser lost when an update is received from an object being edited
It's very small but appreciated - I take it now there's no way that pressing the delete key will accidentally delete an object when you're typing something or trying to remove inventory at all now? ;)

* In script editor switched 'Undo Changes' with 'Help'.
What? You mean you've removed a misleading button that didn't work? How is this a bug fix?

* mini position now correctly matches edit tools position
What is this? I don't even know what this is relating to.

* Taking an object rezzed from trash now correctly goes to Objects.
Wow, a real show-stopper

* Added 'fade' transitions at login to world
This is a bug is it?

See, look at the progress on squashing those big bugs that's been made.

I give up.

Just a clarification, not an apologist: the cited release note was a little too concise. In the LSL script editor -prior to v1.6 - the "Undo Changes" button was just above the "Save" button. The "Undo Changes" button worked too well, one mis-click and you could lose a lot of script editing. In 1.6 the "Undo Changes" button was moved far away from the "Save" button. According to another post, even a mistaken "Undo Changes" can be reverted with Ctrl-Y (which is labeled "Redo" on my keyboard).

Ah right, still not ground-breaking bug fixing eh ;)

Having the Help button over top of the Insert popup made a certain amount of sense. Having the Undo changes button ofver the Insert popop seems like a bad idea to me. I think the idea of moving the Undo button was to move it to a place where it was unlikely to be clicked by accident when clicking something else. There is a big empty space between the left and right button locations, why didn't they move it there as far from other buttons as possible?

(Of course, they could add a confirmation to it, like "Do you want to accidentally delete the only copy of the whole days work?";)

Philip, if you want a good test of ghosting, have another Linden Snowball Fight. My screen had hundreds of ghosted snowballs by the end of it. (With a reduced framrate to match.)
