Hi all,

It would be great if Second Life could provide us with some statistic info about population and use of the game, I know it must be confidential, but some numbers they could leak won't hurt too much ;-)

for example, just knowing how many people really uses the game, something like:

DAILY AVERAGE NUMBER OF USERS LOGED IN BY HOURS
---------------------------------
hours logged in persons
0-1 10,000
1-2 5,000
2-3 1,500
more than 3 500

etc...

what do you think about it ?

thanks!

It benefits LL when the stats indicate an increase in population and use, it seems as if it drives the current surge in corporate presence, I highly doubt that accurate numbers will be disclosed any time soon because of this so dont hold your breath

You can actuallly use some tricks to collect that kind of data (of course, with the deficience marked by Kester). Go to my land in Hallasan 81/47/50, there you will see a floating baloon with the SL logo. The baloon shows the total resident acounts, the current online residents and in how much time the grid will reach the next million residents. Internally, the baloon records statistical data every 10 minutes so I think that things like you are trying to do are posible.

However, having that info without needing tricks would be great, I agree with that.

yes, I agree with you, but then that doesn't speak weel from Second Life, how do they want to build a robust platform of satisfied users and members, this doesn't look like a game, or even business, looks more like governement and politics, fool of lies, just til people react and do something about it (like just switch to another provider, lol, no civil wars here ;-) )

We don't have any right to that information. We can ask for it but they're not obligated to give it to us. I don't think that speaks poorly or well (or weel) of LL.

Just IMO.

from the very moment they started to brag about how many many residents they have in SL and that is something they do each minute as that info is on the very first page you see when going to SecondLife.com or when login in into the SL client, that is from where we gain the right to hear not just bluffing, but also fact numbers

if we don't have the right to hear the real numbers, then why we do to hear the bluffing ones, that, being humans prone to mistakes, mislead us ?

btw: english is not my first language, i dont even live in usa, (remember SL is intended for the whole world?), so, comprehend any mistakes on the writing, what is most important than the form is the content and idea

:) ok, of course all this is IMO, take care!

I was always curious about that.
I am always seeing big numbers like 2.5 million members (not sure if thats acurate)
and then seeing High traffic periods with 26,000 members online and the game lagging out bad. having problems logging in and such.
I was wondering what would happen if all 2.5 million wanted online at the same time?
0.0 Could they acually get all 2.5 million online at the same time?
If they can't..... isn't it illigale to sale a product they don't have?
I know Insurance Companies are not allowed to sale more policies then they have Money to cover.

I think there'd be a point at which no one else would be able to log in. Even if there was co-ordination to get people who log into the welcome sims to move elsewhere--that way the welcome sims have always got space--I think we'd max out the available bandwith and make something somewhere explode. My estimation would be about....200,000 people online.

Defining yesterday could be a problem, unless you mean SL time as I am actually playing SL 18 hours ahead of SL time :)
And sorry I can't give out lotto results :)

I'd like to see active account statistics by account age (1 day, 7 days, 14 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year+) :).

We all know there's a huge influx of new residents, but nothing is said about what the retention rate of older residents is. All we know right now is that 1 in 10 of all new residents ends up sticking around and that that's been a near constant.

That would make only about 250,000 actitive resisents with the rest dead accounts. And if that's the case then just over 10% of the active residents are on at the same time during peak times (that's a high estimate). And at that point SL starts to have some rather severe load related problems. And then would mean that Linden Labs is only about 10% prepared for the residents they have now. :) Another way of putting that is.......they are about 90% unprepared!!

But numbers can be made to say almost anything you want them to say.......so I guess we will always be guessing on this one. :)
