I am lost on the use of the Eyedroper. In all the softwear that I have used where an eyedrop function was.. they were used to capture color samples. I was lost earlier and could not find the eyedroper and decided to get a hold of a Linden support and ask where it was, and they told me in the color window of the Edit/Texture. But then thats where one would think it Would be... Should be. But its not its in the Texture window of the Edit/texture..... strange? Ok then what is it for if not to capture a color? To Capture a Texture??? Now this might be even illegale. And I couldn't get it to work at all.
Can someone enlighten me? Shjak Monde

The one in the texture window 'captures' textures, but only if you can use it (that is, you own a copy version of the texture (copy/mod? someone verify)).

hmmm seems to me if I own the texture already I don't need the eyedroper to capture it.
I do believe the Eyedroper would be much more valuble in Captureing Colors and tints.
I find myself takeing a snapshot and downloading it to hardrive and taking the picture into Photoshop so that I may use the eyedroper there to grab that certian color I was after, by writeing down the RGB and or HSB and copying those numbers back into the color window in SL.. Sure sounds like the long way around the bush.
Personaly myself, I have never had a need to capture a texture. I have always gone to the texture window then on the right side find the texture that I desired in my Inventory and choose it from there.

The eyedropper in the color window captures colors and tints.
I use the eyedropper all the time in building, because it's so convenient to just suck up a common texture from the prim next to the one I'm working on.
I would *also* like the tool you're describing to pull a tint from a texture, yes. But the one they have isn't useless.

Would either of these tools do? I have used both for many years, and can recommend them. http://colorselector.sourceforge.net/http://www.inetia.com/eng/eyedropper_eng.php

The idea is to find textures quickly and easily without having to remember the name or where it was located in your iventory. You set up a prim with it once, just suck it over to the next prim.

You set up a prim with it once, just suck it over to the next prim. Exactly that way you dont have to keep hunting through folders or remembering all the names of the textures you used previously. Nice time save if you ask me, I use it a lot.

From: Shjak Monde hmmm seems to me if I own the texture already I don't need the eyedroper to capture it. Well if you don't own the texture, then any way of accessing and using it would be stealing, so I guess I don't get your point. The tool is to make building easier, not to get you free textures. From: Shjak Monde I do believe the Eyedroper would be much more valuble in Captureing Colors and tints.

Sure sounds like the long way around the bush. And it does capture color, if the prim has a color applied. That dropper is in the color chooser. It does not capture colors from *within* a texture though (and I must say, that would make a nice addition), which is what I think you're getting at here. I just grabbed the eyedropper Rabbitsfoot mentioned from http://www.inetia.com/eng/eyedropper_eng.php, and gotta say it works great, it docks into your taskbar. When you right click on it, you get a show/hide checkbox, and it does work with SL, brings up the color picker.. it does copy values to the clipboard (though I've not found anywhere in the setup to do color averaging of pixels) and I can see that it would be way, WAY quicker than taking a screen out into a graphics editor to get a color value. I did not investigate the other, as it seems to have more features that are not needed, and I figure that would be resources wasted to do what is wanted. (update) I did investigate the other, it is not as intuitive or easy to use, plus it crashed my desktop. ><

Ahhh I am starting to understand now why the eyedroper is working the way it is. when I was wanting to quickly texture many Prims I always just opened my inventory..find the texture I wanted to use... hold down the shift key and drag and drop.. drag and drop.. drag and drop.. etc It always seemed fast enough. However I supose this is just another way to do it...... However this does not deminish the need for an eyedroper that captures colors.. and I must be blind I am seeing many people saying there is an eyedroper in the Color window?? and if it can not capture color within textures it is severly crippled. for I need to create complemtory parts that may not have that texture but needs that color. Also it would need to capture color not only off prims but clothing and stuff also. I will look into that http://www.inetia.com/eng/eyedropper_eng.php thanks

I just downloaded and tried the eyedroper thats Rabbitsfoot mentioned and ...wow this is real help. Thank you very much... not only was the captureing of the screen shot and loading it into Photoshop a hassle but Photoshop is such a memory hog and makes it much more difficult for me to have it open along with SL. This will help me a lot. Thank you very much Rabbitfoot for that tip.

I know where it is, would someone please tell me how to use it. Specifically key presses - such as "select the prim, hold down Ctrl, etc. etc. Thanks!!

Select the prim to edit. Open the texture/color selector. Click the eye dropper at the bottom of the floater. Click the texture or color to steal.
