Dear LL PLEASE fix the texture editor.
I want all creators to know they are not alone intheir texturing woes! I have spoken to numerous creators with the exact same problem! I was hoping they would fix it in today's update, but alas no! I asked LH about it the other day and a Linden told me to file bug reports. I did. I would like to encourage everyone who is having this problem to do so also.
If you right click on a previously textured object you have made, and go edit -> texture, the editor would find the texture automatically.
Now you have do either do a search for it.. OR scroll SCROLL SCROLL through all your textures to find the correct one..
What use is that??
....and what is with that jolly eyedropper thang?
Can anyone enlighten us?

While it's not fixed there is a workaround if you're dealing with objects (sorry, haven't found one for avatars): 1. Rez and edit a different object and select texture panel 2. Select texture checkbox. 3. Click on the new object's texture box 4. Use the eyedropper to select the texture that you want to find on the original object you were editing. 5. Note its name and location. Tedious, but at least there is a way. Also if your eyedropper has "apply immediately" set to OFF, instead of rezzing an object you can pick any object safely. As for the eyedropper, it's useful when you want several objects to take on the same texture. Edit texture, select the eyedropper, then click on the prototype. Hmm ... the eyedropper allows you to make low quality copies of textures you don't have.

Work-Around
07-22-2006 05:25
This bug is really annoying, but I've got some good news. There is a work-around. After you open the texture picker, deselect the prim (or surface) and then reselect it again. With any selection made after the picker is open, it will find the texture. With a selection made before the picker is open, it won't. So, just make sure to always make a selection AFTER you open the picker and everything will be fine.
I was up pretty late last night working on a project when I discovered this technique, and I used it the rest of the night with no problems. I just tested this morning as I'm writing this, and it still works.

I have merged these two threads, please do not cross forum post.
And moved to Current Version Feature Feedback (from Design & General Topics).

Sweet, I was getting quite flustered over that texture issue, But I am happy we have some options available. I will have to try it out, and confirm it works.

All the ways around it didn't seem to work for me... at any rate, wasn't it working just fine prior to the up date? I never had any problems with it. Reminds me of an old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
LINDEN GODS... PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK!!!!
