Ok so we got a new world map, pretty, dont see why we need to stream it constantly, every time you open map, alot worse if its a lone island sim wich can take forever, boring waiting time to watch it slooowly reeeezzz

Why not let people download a map option, once every 24 hour, or something. i doubt you save much bandwidth by this streaming we have now, and the map isnt update THAT often you need a streaming option for it.

Other idea to, why not perm cache Welcome area,, quit fun for newppl to join im sure and first thing they see is "Welcome to SL cardboard paper version 1.7.x"

I'm goig to jump on this boat to, being that while im on campus on a packet shaped limited connection i pretty much am in terror of accidentily opening the map during gameplay, ergo causeing my ping to skyrocket in excess of 8000ms.

If say you had it so a complete revision of the map would be trickled in the background of the client and have it updated once every 24/48/72 hours or something along thoes lines, that way users that are in a pinch for bandwith arent SOL for useing the map as a mode of transportation.

(EDIT: wow that post is incoherent, posting at 5 am is a generaly a bad idea i guess :P)

I'm coming here too. It's weird. I explore somewhere, and then load the map again, and I see the big white outline with the gray fill. And then I explore somewhere else, open the map, and it happens again. And again. It has a goldfish memory or something... don't know why but it's fairly intrusive.

I agree, every possible opportunity for seeing a gray loading texture rectangle needs to be eliminated.
