Ok.. I had lag, a little chat lag, invisible people, moderate packet loss, fluctuating bandwidth usage, lack of teleport and inventory problems with the previous version. Installed the update and everything is WORSE!!!! On top of everything STILL being as bad as the previous "update", I now get script errors, the online status is u/s (as you explained) and the other problems your blog has noted. I have yet to see a proper "update". Dont call them that. You dont update a thing. You swap problems. STOP ADDING THINGS!!! FIX THE THINGS WE KNOW ARE STUFFED, THEN ADD THINGS. They are not updates, they are just a massive sidestep. I only keep coming back to SL now to talk to my friends. Exploring used to be fun. Now its a chore. I have logged out and in again due to tp problems more times than I have drawn a breath of air !!! Keep this up an I'll go back to ICQ and its trojans. At least there I can FIX them.

Exploring used to be fun. Now its a chore. Building used to be fun. Now its a pain. This evening (22:00 GMT), I see teleports beginning to fail, searches slower and slower, textures not rezzing, walking in a fuzzy world, huge packet losses and awful time dilations. While I'm reading your post in Mozzila, my SL client just crashed in the background. Fifth crash of the evening. Let's face it : Second Life can't scale. R.I.P. |

If you look at the release notes, the primary purpose of this patch was to relieve stress on the database by further optimizing Search functionality.
But regardless, don't you think they're working on it? Simcaps? Mono? These things are big deals. You can't realistically expect an immediate overnight magical fix. People can only work so fast. |

If you look at the release notes, the primary purpose of this patch was to relieve stress on the database by further optimizing Search functionality. But regardless, don't you think they're working on it? From what I read about simcaps and mono, they don't reduce the load on the asset servers. Mono is supposed to reduce the load on the sim the script is running on, which won't affect grid load, and simcaps was added to allow mixed version sims and viewers to coexist, again not to help with load. |

So far the only "solutions" LL has come up with are to kill off or harm existing features for the sake of relieving stress, which to me suggests they don't really have any clue on how to go about a more permanent and scalable fix. This is relieving database stress on the search servers. It goes along with the privacy settings and, in theory, makes sense. From what I read about simcaps and mono, they don't reduce the load on the asset servers. Mono is supposed to reduce the load on the sim the script is running on, which won't affect grid load, and simcaps was added to allow mixed version sims and viewers to coexist, again not to help with load. Mono implementation will help scripts run more efficiently, thus leaving sims more horsepower to handle traffic, therefore reducing lag. Simcaps are a move to more accepted standards, leading to (among other things) improved asset delivery methods and reduced packet loss, reducing lag. It also paves the way for vastly improved local caching. The asset server itself... needs all the help it can get. As of a month ago there was over 300,000,000 assets. I wouldn't be surprised there was 400,000,000 now. I'm not sure what their attack here is, but it is definitely a case where they need to tread lightly. |

I didn't want to start a new thread, but I do want to know - and I hope this isn't the wrong place - I set the update download off then went to bed and let the boy click 'ok' so I dunno what I agreed to

In the short term, you can use the Teleport button from your Friends list for your friends. For nonfriends... *shrug* It was just a (bad) oversight. |

You are so right, Ruby ![]() First I was quite bugged, but meanwhile I'm watching the show fascinated, amused and curious. What will they do next? ![]() PS: Imagine LL was running the internet. "We changed some fonts and colors. We will now take down the whole web for 5 hours. Uhm, no, to be honest it'll be 7 hours again." ![]() Hm, yes, I became a little bitter meanwhile, I must confess. |

Same here - packet loss, freezing jerky movement. I think it's LL's way of keeping themselves in work - they just bring back the same problems over and over again - and the Inventory save state bug is really annoying me too!!
Remember thoughm that the Lindens don't do forums anymore! You're best bet is to Bug report and/or email support! |

A slight clarification

You can't realistically expect an immediate overnight magical fix. People can only work so fast. I hate to say this but that comment is nul and void. No-one is expecting a magical fix and the Lindens have had a LOT more time than just "overnight". At least HALF if not MOST of the problems being experienced in SL at the moment have been ongoing for quite a few updates now. They are not "new problems just discovered". Inventory problems have been occurring for at least the last few updates. TP problems STILL occurr now EVEN THOUGH their "rolling shutdown" was supposed to be part of "fixing" it. Search problems have ALWAYS been experienced, it's just they fix one function within search only to discover the 'fix' affects another part within. I think there might not be enough analysis of the outcome of a function execution. They click, it works, lets upload it, oh snap, its buggered that part, ok lets fix that.... While I fully understand the Lindens and all associated staff and techs are working day and night to alleviate these problems (all the while under constant flak from people like myself (and yes I don't deny I'm one of the aggrieved)), I fail to understand especially by now, why they themselves havent noticed that a "quick fix to keep SL going" just doesnt work. Updates are fine as long as it updates the good things and NOT updates the bad things. I guess my point was meant to be, the Lindens need less updates handed out per month (unless it's deemed critical) and more time studying the existing , ongoing, consistently annoying, ever repeating, oh god it's still happening, I thought they fixed this three updates ago, type problems. They ALREADY exist. They just GET ALTERED each update. |

I think they just wanted us to get used to the other CRAPPY version, so we wouldn't complain about it when we go BACK to it..but I do have to agree..this is the WORST version i've played on in 2 years! It's almost impossible to play at all, and im really not one to complain..but when it has to do with RL money..I HAVE to speak up..what good it does, I cant tell you.

You can't realistically expect an immediate overnight magical fix. People can only work so fast. You're right, but the problem is, the Lindens don't fix, they add features AND fix. Adding features to a shaky base will give you? Shaky base with new shaky features. I made a proposal http://secondlife.com/vote/vote.php?get_id=2808 maybe if you can spare a vote or two you could support my proposal. |

LL IS avoiding the issue and hoping it will fix itself. and for the record (and im not a technical person) but even when they took the search DOWN for repairs the issues were still there. as one poster put it, R.I.P SL.....or sell it to a competant company that knows what they are doing. _____________________
There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.
