Didn't know where to put this so I am plopping it here. I need to convert windows video files to quicktime video files...and I have tried doing that with the quicktime pro. It don't seem to work cuz it gives an error that some compression is missing or something. and in other files the audio will work but not the video. I am all confused here. I have successfully captured film in SL with FRAPS. I love it!! But now I would like to enable that film to be shown in SL. It seems like if you film in sl you could show it in sl...hrmm...am I making any sense here? Any help would be more than appreciated!!!

Frapps makes uncompressed AVI files that may need to be compressed using a common codec that QT can handle. I don't know QT pro at all so I can't say for certain but you can try a program called VirtualDub (free) that will compress it into a wide variety of codecs. Something to try at least and VirtualDub is great just to reduce the file size if nothing else.

I did it in Premire, here's my steps plus you can see a SL movie I exported, edited in Premire then converted to .mov and it is watchable on my land on my big screen!

Try ctrl + alt + 1 to get rid of the gui. do that again to get it back. Then you have just the view.

FRAPS saves in a slightly compressed format that QT does not understand. You have to uncompress that (gets about 4x bigger) with VirtualDub (which you can get at sourceforge.net for free.) Then QT Pro can open it.
If you want to convert from WMV to MOV, you have to get a video editing package that can open WMV and export to QuickTime. QT Pro does not have the ability to open WMV files. I got a copy of Video Explosion Deluxe for about 80bux and it will open WMV. When I do video for Second Life, I capture it with FRAPS, uncompress it with VirtualDub, composite/edit/title/etc. it in VEDeluxe, then save it as uncompressed video. Then I compress it using QuickTime Pro (30bux.) I could just use the QT compressor that's bundled with VEDeluxe but it doesn't have as many options and it saves in QT5 instead of QT6. QT7 is supposed to be out for PC real soon now(tm) and it has that amazing new H.something codec that's supposed to be extremely awesome. _____________________

May also want to try PSP Converter (google it). It's free and crunches the files nicely without losing too much quality. It exports to MP4 which can then be made into a hinted .mov file using QT's export function. I've done this for use on my own sim and have watched full length, fully viewable movies with 3 people watching (requires the use of a T1 connection I have access to for this many folks though).
