OMG OMG OMG... THIS is exciting.

This seems to be a little-known new feature of 1.6 thus far, but I'd definitely like to spread the word because I can see it being UBER-USEFUL. Earlier today, Launa Fauna (credit where credit is due) informed me that there was apparently a new "High-res Snapshot" mode added to the 1.6 Debug menu. I was like, you know, no words after my initial excitement. Just a lot of !!!

So I headed over to teh newz "Build 13" to c-c-check out. Enabled the option, and took a snap. My first shot sucked, it was all garbled for some reason after taking a LONG time to write to disk (these puppies seem to take almost 80 megs apiece!), but then I snapped again and waited with baited breath.

HOLY MOLY GIGANTOR IMAGE. THIS PICTURE COULD EAT KING KONG'S BABIES *AND* HIS BANANA STASH FOR BREAKFAST. THOUSANDS OV PIXELS IN EACH DIRECTION. Incredibliciousity.

I know I had been requesting an offline renderer of sorts for high-def. photos in SL for quite some time, and this isn't quite it, but absolutely a yuge leap in the right direction.

SO REALLY A WISH OF MINE CAME TRUE.

AND I BELIEVE IN EASTER BUNNY, SANTA, AND LINDENS!

SO THANK YOU LINDENS TO WHOEVERS IZ RESPONSIBLE.

And to tha rest of ya who do SL posters and detailed product art or just want some wonderfully big-ass images to treasure, express yourselves. This is amazing.

=^_^=

I'll pass the word on! This was a feature we added internally to get high-res snapshots. Glad to hear you will enjoy it as much as us!

Sweet. No more switching to 1280x1024 and lagging to death when I want a "high res" snapshot.

Ack...the high-res snapshots don't seem to like me. :\ ...Whenever I take a snapshot in high-res it takes forever to load and then finally I get a picture with 20 squares of a repeated texture....The first snapshot I took wasn't completely filled with the repeated patterns so I saved it, and yes its amazing how gigantic the picture is :D. Although I do hope this isn't a permanent problem for me when they release it Monday. :(

Lost, I had a similar problem the first time I took one of these "High-res Snapshots", almost exactly what you're describing -- if not the same thing -- but the 2nd and 3rd pictures I took afterwards ended up fine. Did you keep taking photos and have the repeated problem on consecutive ones?

Yes Torely, I took about 10 or 15 snapshots before I finally gave up. The same problem kept reoccurring. In the first snapshot, the top row was only covered in a repeated pattern, but all images after that were almost completely covered.

Cool feature, thanks for the info Torley.

I must be very lucky as everything worked perfectly from the first snapshot I took then I had great fun in Photoshop playing with depth of field and stuff.

Hours of fun!!

Dangit Lost... hmmm... what video card do you use again? I think you recently told me you upgraded, so I'm wondering if this problem might be specific to some cards.

Is anyone else encountering the same problem as Lost and unable to properly take high-res snapshots because of this unwanted image tiling?

Thanks Torley and Launa Fauna (credit where credit is due)! Truly amazing.

I quickly jumped on to see this for myself, and what a great feature it is :)
Although one problem I did encounter is I lose connection after each high-res snapshot.

Overall a great feature

Thanks!

You're probably running in dual-head / multi-monitor mode. no?

Try it with single display mode. A pain, yeah, but at this point that's the behavior.

All you have to do to keep all those boxes appearing is to toggle off "UI in Snapshot" on the Debug menu.
