Does anyone know if LL has done anything recently in serverland that made rendering more stressful for video cards? Are they beginning to roll out Windlight without mentioning it? I notice that the login screen for the release candidate is gorgeous, perhaps Windlight?
My marginal intel-video laptop had been doing OK until this last week, and is now basically kaput. I've tried both the pre-voice (Nicholaz) and release candidate (SL's and Nicholaz's version), and I get a lot of blue screen crashes.
I've done yet another round of driver upgrades/downgrades, and checked all parameters. Disabled firewall & antivirus etc. completely, tested DSL, checked all preferences 3 times, no joy. Nothing that has previously worked client-side is working anymore.
I see more complaints than usual about an inability for folks to login, I see the 30-second freeze phenom being reported, I see that the "connecting to region" phase of login is taking noticably longer than it used to. Could some of these behaviors be due to server-side changes?
Ultimately, of course, this chipset is simply unsupported, so cannot go to LL with questions. But I am wondering ... are the servers putting more stress on rendering now?
