Pooping on the little guy!

I just logged back into SL after the update and i went to search to see where abouts i stood on the list of shops...and suddenly BANG 86 thousand traffic here...70 thousand traffic there!! and little old me 3 pages later!

The searching is alot more open now! you type one word in you get about 300000 places! If your a small business like me you really arnt going to be getting 80 thousand traffic any time soon and will be no where near the top of the list or even on the first few pages of the list and i really dont think any one is going to go through 4 pages of shops and eventually come to mine any time soon

is this an error or is it planned to stay like this?

It was my understanding that traffic wasn't being calculated properly lately. It's possible that it was fixed. When I first joined SL, it was a milestone to hit 6000 connections, and at that time I was seeing 12K-15K traffic numbers at the top of the list. Now with 4 times the peak traffic, and who know how many times the average traffic, I'm not surprised to see numbers 4 times larger.

But this is just speculation, as I don't understand how the numbers are generated.

Back when I started simulators couldn't go above something like 30 avatars (probably less). Now the top sims can have upwards of 60 avatars in them, they lag incredibly but so long as they're getting their L$1 per week camping money they're content to sit there uselessly.

While I can agree with this to an extent, search is pulling up places that do not make sense at all for the search terms now. Search is even pulling up places that do not have the keywords listed. The traffic numbers are one thing to be using but it seems to be searching for something not even related, perhaps finding places that have the same letters in their names/descriptions? Either way, search seems to be broken yet again.

In a recent update, Search Places was quietly changed so that it now ORs all terms instead of ANDing them.

In other words.. in the previous version, searching for "Bijo Design" showed up everything that contained the string "bijo" and the string "design". This included things like "Bijoux" and similar.

Now, however, it shows up everything that contains the word "bijo" or the word "design". This means that every single parcel with "design" in its description or name shows up on the search.

Search Classifieds appears to have retained the old behaviour; Search All has the new behaviour for everything except classifieds.

Of course, this means that I'll probably change the name of my business to just "Bijo" pretty soon. It's either that or camping chairs
