Yep. And I'm pretty sure it's *not* the firewall.

I got the same "firewall" message. Then I noticed my computer wanted to install an automatic update of Java. I allowed it to update and then I went to the SL website and downloaded from there and it worked. Good luck!

I got the same error. I never got this error on previous updates and I too doubt it was firewall related as the problem continued after bypassing it. It is likely just another random SL glitch. To get around this problem... just go to the SL website and download it directly.

It can't be a Firewall issue thats for sure. I run 3 systems through my NAT router, and 2 of the systems could both download the update. I was able to 'cure' the problem by simply using one of the systems to update the others through the network. I don't use local firewalls for each of the systems, and they are all running the same OS, Virus checker etc.

Important Note: I take no responsibility for the accuracy of the advice I have provided here. I strongly suggest you verify this advice with your own ISP before you use it.

*** WARNING ***

This type of advice could be used by a person to exploit your computer by providing a reference to a non Second Life copy of the Second Life executable. The person could then substitue a virus, trojan or other program which could damage your computer. Please be VERY careful before using the information I have provided (after all, I'm a stranger and my motivations are unknown to you). Before using this information you can check the IP address I have provided by using a WHOIS database. I used http://samspade.org/ to check the address I was given. You will notice that the details returned clearly shown Amazon.com as the owner of the address.

Ignore my warning at your own peril.

Ok. Thanks to the clever folk at Internode I have a workaround. This is a known DNS issue with Amazon's AWS service.

The workaround is to edit your hosts file to include the following reference (see my warning above):

72.21.203.129 s3.amazonaws.com

For Windows XP users the hosts file can generally be found in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC.

Once the file is open, drop in the above reference, save the file and try the download again from the Second Life website.

Once your download is complete, re-edit the hosts file and remove the reference above.

Problem solved.

Cheers
