Unfortunately, I couldn't get SL itself to capture a screenshot of this glitch - for some reason, it seems that 1.6 refreshes just enough before a ctrl-shft-S screenshot to destroy what I'm trying to show. Trying to capture an image of it via the report bug menu entry had the same effect.
So, heh, I used the video function provided, saved a seven second video of this problem in action, and found somewhere to upload it (to keep my account from being hosed).
The attachement contains a video where the backgrounds are not being rendered at all, and thus everything goes blurry when I turn left or right.
The red pipe in the middle is me following a spot I marked on the map. It turned out to be excellent and bright for showing off this little bug.
All appropriate features in Debug were enabled at the time of this video, which leaves me baffled.
(edit: perhaps I should include some system specs here) Second Life 1.6.0 (11) Mar 21 2005 10:46:15

Just a quick note to say that I have the same problem with the latest release of SL 1.6 Build 11.

Windows Media Player or the QuickTime player wasn't able to open the MPEG file in your attachment - could you check it's valid and repost if not.
Which media URL were you using ?
Where abouts on the preview grid is it playing ?
Cheers.

Cal. Callum, The video Araiya posted viewed fine for me. Not sure if it requires a plug-in I already have installed. As far as your question about where in the grid the problem occured -- for me it was right at the login site (which is underwater). I flew around a bit and still had the same effects. Thanks for your help! EDIT: It's not a problem with SLs new streaming video. It's a problem with rendering the SL environment itself (eg. trees, land and builds).

strange - nothing i've tried on my pc & mac dev boxes can open it. in any case, what graphics card do you have - i know there was a rendering issue with intel extreme cards ?

My system actually runs SL pretty well! EDIT: The Video Codec for the video of the problem lists as: InterVideo Video Decoder

From: Callum Linden strange - nothing i've tried on my pc & mac dev boxes can open it. Got DivX? From: someone in any case, what graphics card do you have - i know there was a rendering issue with intel extreme cards ? That info was added in to the first post, after I realized I omitted it. Also, http://rapidshare.de/files/964971/That_darn_SL_glitch.zip.htmlcontains a second, clearer video showing what is happening. It's nothing to do with the (boo! hiss!) Quicktime streaming at all (of which I could care less if it worked - it freezes my system for a good 3 to 5 seconds to start a video).

From: Araiya Bomazi Got DivX? ah! that explains a lot - i thought .mpg was reserved for MPEG1 streams and DivX used other extensions like .divx or .avi i'll install the divx codecs and take a look. thanks for the info guys.

Not a problem. Yeah, I don't think everyone would appreciate downloading a 246 mb uncompressed AVI to see 11 seconds of bugwork. Nor would I have anywhere to upload it.

Logged in and downloaded the newest build of 1.6 (12)... I'm having the same rendering problems as before. I REALLY hope LL isn't getting close to release of 1.6. Would hate to have SL looking the way it does to me now! Thanks for all the efforts! P.S. Is anyone else having this same problem with the last two builds? If so, please post here! Thanks!

I also am having this problem, i might have missed the previous build, but this newest one is causing the "blurry" effect, all the other builds i have tried have been fine, its just this one ive seen the problem on.
i also have a Geforce 4 Ti 4200, perhaps this is the problem?

i also have a Geforce 4 Ti 4200, perhaps this is the problem? You're sure it's the same "hall of mirrors" effect as in Araiya's video? It's not that textures on objects are blurry? If it's the former, then yeah, it's possible it's a video problem that picks on GeForce 4s. If textures are just blurry, it's likely that your video card doesn't have enough texture memory to accurately render that scene.

That is the wonderful 'sky not rendering' bug. We have a fix but it isn't in the latest preview I think. The work around until the next preview is pushed out is to make sure that in the Second Life Preferences, Graphics tab, 'Disable Farclip' is checked.

FYI... The latest release of SL 1.6 (13) fixed my 'sky not rendering' problem.
Thanks!
