This has to be the most unstable release ever. Just random crashes (even when nothing is being done).

You are absolutely correct sir, this release is as buggy as a Pixar release.

Our group were working in SL last night, after the new release, on average 8 out of 10 were experiencing multiple crashes (3-5 per hour), the other 2 (including me) only crashed twice in the space of 4 hours. The only thing that was comparalble was that we had more than 1gb memory (2gb's each), so maybe the memory leaks are still there?

The mem leaks are pretty bad it will just keep sucking up memory untill it hit's zero. Fortunately I have mem turbo so I can keep a handle on it barely.

Too Many Crashes!

WTH? This has been the absolute worse for inworld crashing! Only 2, AMW...since Friday evening I personally have been experiencing at least one to two crashes for every two hours I spend In World! What gives, LL? And of course, it figures, doesn't, LL takes the weekends off and nobody that MIGHT be there even posts a dog gone thing about what they are doing about this problem! I can't work in this kind of environment and I an certain, neither can anyone else! When I do manage to get something done, I crash and lose what I did...sucks! and its a pisser too! What ever happened, back in January, when LL stated that when people coming inworld would be limited to those already in SL and only allow paying Residents in..and the freebies, if they logged out, would not be able to log in again until the lag due to so many inworld became more stable? Huh? Why am I paying premium for this? Why, when the freebies get the same rights as those of us who pay and have been here LONG BEFORE LL decided to go Big Business? Don't we as Premium Members have any rights too? And why, lately, does it seem that LL is so darn big on getting new stuff inworld, like Lightwave and Sculpties when the old issues and bugs have yet to be fixed? Or am I feeling alone in all of this? I wish I could be in Chicago for the SL convention to watch the riots when LL does a sidestep avoiding the questions on these problems..LOL!

Every release is dubbed "The worst release ever," it seems. The sad thing is, what does that say about how LL is handling things?
I will agree though. Actually the last three updates have been horrific, for me. But I guess that's just how it goes, as the game goes on, systems will have a harder time running it.

It's true, I don't experience the vast majority of issues that are posted here on the forums. Even if I were to post the full specs of my systems, it's doubtful that anyone making an identical system, would have the relative stability that I get, this can be due to many reasons, electrical spikes, poor quality phone lines and or extension leads, services in the OS, other software installed and running etc.. the list is endless. What is true though, that I try and assist those by trying to draw comparisions and posting those. If that helps just one other person, then it's worth it.

Agreed
As a general rule I do not experience the problems people often mention here & average 50 - 80fps (depending on number of people on sim), peeking at around 120fps ~ rarely if ever crashing.
However, since this last upgrade to 1.18 I have been crashing to OS almost hourly and on 4 seperate occasions have even experienced a Blue Screen (of Death) - the first time I have seen this on any of my machines in many years.
The Blue Screen flashes too fast to get any detailed information but what can be seen is "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT"
I too have more than 2Gb RAM (usually running dual-channel but after the Blue Screen I tried running it on seperate channels but the Blue Screen re-occurred)
Painful

The BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) is solely caused when a programme either overwrites system used memory, or won't give it up to the system, when cached out. XP was supposed to be 'the' most stable OS of its time, simply due to reserving memory strictly for itself. However, it is extremely rare that BSOD appears, unless some programme is very badly written... if it only happens to a very few people, it maybe caused by a 3rd party programme that you are using.

hmm.. It seems I cant play this release at all. It just crashes every time I log in, or shortly thereafter. I thought the problem was limited to the First look viewer, But I was wrong, even the release version crashes like mad. It seems as If I wont be able to log on or do anything in world until this is resolved.
I dont know what Linden Labs did, But they completely killed SL for me.

From: someone The BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) is solely caused when a programme either overwrites system used memory... Thought I'd look into this & so replaced the existing 3 x 1Gb RAM modules with 3 brand-new CORSAIR sequentially numbered RAM modules. SL is back to running as it was & it appears that it was an unhappy coincidence that v1.18 was released about the same time that one of the old modules failed. Appears that equipment was to blame, rather than SL itself. Thanks for the pointer & tip from AWM Mars, SL is again a glorious place to play in

Oh, thanks, I'm not the only one! I'm crashing every 15-30 minutes. This is the first time I'm having these problems.

Most of my crashes seem to be related to using the camera controls. If I jump on a pose stand and try to cam around myself, I will crash 99 per cent of the time.

Funny because I have found this release to be the most stable in months. I hardly ever crash anyway since purchasing a new rig, but this release has all working as expected for me - all around.

I wish I had the chance to even crash after this release. They must have sent something client side that my video card (which true, is a couple versions behind the recommended ones, but has managed to keep up) finally can't handle. I get the title bar on top, but no login bar. I priced a new machine and they all come with Vista which apparently is not yet supported. I'm able to log in on my old laptop, but I find that once I move, rez an object or change appearance and so on, that it introduces some kind of runaway memory leak that eventually either crashes SL, or blue screens and reboots the computer, pretty much 50/50 on that.
On the laptop if I stand where I log in and don't move or use anything in inventory I can pretty much IM people just fine for almost an hour without crashing; though I discovered last night that trying to turn to face them if they TP nearby immediatly causes me to bluescreen.
So when's Halo 3 coming out for the xbox?

My SL partner is having some major crash problems with SL for the last week or so. Is there any reason for this when his system was running fine when the upgrade first came out?
This week, he uninstalled SL and reinstalled it twice. He'd made no changes to his system recently prior to that. He did a full system check, and checked again to make sure his drivers were upgraded. He even tried running other programs on his PC without being logged into SL until it was at 95% capacity for about 30 minutes, and nothing he had running failed. Only SL crashes, even when its the only program running. He has not made any changes to his game settings. He's not getting freeze ups.
He did say that it seems that he crashes more if the music stream is turned on sometimes. He usually crashes immediately after logging in, at least once. Yesterday, he crashed 8 times in 30 minutes. Tuesday, he only crashed once right after logging in and then he was good for over an hour. Today, he crashed three times immediatey after logging in, then was good for 30 minutes. The crash times are not consistant. I know that both Wednesday and today, we were doing nothing more than standing and chatting in our yard. I was not with him yesterday.
Any explanations or solutions for this? He's getting really frustrated over this mess.
