Has anyone succeeded in running the 1.6 preview under Linux?

Runs fine under WineX 3.3-1 - grab a copy via Point2Play.

Nothing really special required.

Eep: forgot to change account again (<--- Adam Zaius)

What about with the free version that's been floating around the forums?

Are you sure it works?

I'm trying Point2Play, install only went fine with Cedega 4.2.1, but when I run the game, it gets to the "send crash reports in the future" dialog, then the "no directx 9" dialog, then it crashes.

The console shows this:

CODE

I have an ATI card, with GL drivers (that works well, according to Point2Play).

You see, our experts describe you as an appallingly dull fellow, unimaginative, timid, lacking in initiative, spineless, easily dominated, no sense of humour, tedious company and irrepressibly drab and awful. And whereas in most professions these would be considerable drawbacks, in chartered accountancy they are a positive boon.

I've been using SL under WineX for a while now, I never did get it to work with Cedega. So far with the 1.6 preview test, I can only get to Verifying Protocol Version, at which point it wants to update itself, even though I'm using the most current version.

I'm hoping this doesn't happen when 1.6 is really out, but we'll see. It might just be my WineX setup.

I wish they'd just give us a Linux client already... >_<

It's been my experience that when you go with an operating system that isn't mainstream, you get treated as secondary, at least with gaming. I used to play Neverwinter Nights, they promised us a Linux client at the start and it took quite a while for them to actually release it. I think it was about a year. They never did release a toolset for it, the community ended up creating their own down the road... So I'm used to this. ;)

It's worth the hassle to me though, although I do hope it gets better as more people discover the alternatives. :D
